About Books and Things

Books and Things is a meetup group for book lovers where members can meet like minded people and talk about books, writers, genres, etc., basically anything book-related.
It's a place where people can go to discover new writers and books, try new genres and have more fun with books. The main idea is to keep the group book focused with some flexibility to have events that are less book focused. Members are welcome to try their hand at hosting events as a guest host or just suggesting venues for events.

Our events will include but is not limited to the following:
Casual book events at cafes, theme based events, book dinners with(without) related themes
Book swap events, walk and book events, etc.
We are also considering holding larger social nights a few times a year where members can socialize more casually.

Meetup rules

Organizers pay a monthly fee to maintain a Meetup group.
Meetup is not free!!
For this reason, we will collect meetup fees at each event.
Meetup fees range from 100 yen to 500 yen depending on the
amount of time and effort required to prepare for the event.

Please do not post information not related to the event in the event comments.
Event comments should be used to ask questions about the event, post additional information and get in contact with other participating members.

This meetup group is open to everyone. All meetup events are open to all members unless otherwise specified.
To keep this group as enjoyable as possible, the organizer reserves the right to remove members who do not abide by the spirit of this group. Membership in this group is considered a privilege, not a right.

What behaviors are grounds for removal?
The following are some possible reasons that a member may be removed from this group (with or without warning):
Two no-shows
General rudeness and anti-social behavior
Harassing or impolite e-mails or greetings
Overly-aggressive approaches towards the opposite sex, to the point of discomfort
Complaints from multiple members reg. behavior, etc.
Over-promotion of one's business or social group

Members of Books and Things are required to:

Guest hosts
Guest hosts are members who have attended a few events (at least two) and would like to host a single book related event.Guest hosts will be given limited access to organizer controls and will be responsible for collecting meetup event fees for the event they hold. The organizers will help you plan and set up the event but the guest host will be responsible for responding to inquiries regarding the event and all organizer responsibilities during the event.
As a rule, at least one organizer shall attend an event hosted by a guest host.
If you would like to be a guest host, please contact an organizer for instructions on how to proceed.

Like most meetup groups, this group is run by volunteer organizers who are planning and organizing events in their free time.
All organizers shall be equal partners (or aim to be after a trial period) in organizing and maintaining the group.

Organizers will be responsible for collecting meetup event fees (100yen per participant) which shall be pooled and used to pay for the Meetup Website fee.

Organizers not actively participating, properly managing their events, or not following the rules of the group may be subject to dismissal.
New organizers will start as a guest host. After successfully organizing three meetups, guest host can sign up to become a member of the organizing team.

Organizers (and guest hosts) may choose the venues for their events.
They can be the same place or a different place each time or a combination of regular and new venues.
If the organizer or guest host is affiliated with the venue in any way (including just being friends with the owner/staff)
they must disclose this on the event page. This is to maintain transparency and prevent issues regarding the use
of meetup events for personal gain.
