Wine Down After the Holidays and Reconnect with New Friends

This will be an unsponsored event, so each person will be responsible for his or her tab.  I have not ever been there myself, but it sounds nice, is close to public transportation and is reasonably priced.  I have been told that on a Tuesday night it should be quiet enough that we can hear each other without shouting.  I am working on the details for our next meeting with a speaker and will try to post them soon. Hope you all have a great holiday and look forward to seeing you on the 8th!

Had a great time. Everyone was very nice. Recommend switching up so everyone can meet everyone. Is this meetup considered a socializing meetup, networking, or informational meetup? It is difficult to have 3 in one. Should someone ask for contact information, how does one share that without giving a card? That is why I ask what focus this group has. Also, with myself having attended well over 100 meetups, I suggest this group have an agenda with an outline of what is and is not expected from the member. Also having time for a certain amount of members to stand before the group and introduce themselves and what they do, and what they are looking to get out of each meeting.

I am new to meetup organizing, so I apologize if our mission wasn't clear to you. We are a new group, but I hope we will grow into a community where members can learn about retirement related issues and can support each other through some of the choices that we all have to make. Some baby boomers may feel completely ready - emotionally and financially - for retirement, but I think many of us are uncertain about what retirement will bring and wonder about things like if we will have access to good medical care, will we have the retirement income we need, will we be able to stay in our homes, and will we feel fulfilled in retirement.

My role as organizer will be to try to bring in speakers to talk about some of these subjects and to facilitate the discussions before, during and after these events. We are not a lead generation group. We are not a place for members to cross-sell to each other. I welcome feedback from the members so that I can improve the experience for us all, but we will not become a forum where members get up and announce who they are and say that their business is selling a product. Sorry if that wasn't clear from our mission statement. Hopefully, the amendment that I made to that statement will make it clear.
      Sorry for the confusion,

I disagree with Rick....I thought the event was fine and I would not want it to have an agenda or for it to be more "business-like". If you do decide to "mix it up" Cindy, I suggest an announcement at some point for any one who wants to change their seat to raise their hands and they can switch. I believe many will not want to.

As was the couple that arrived early and asked what was going to be happening. They had no idea what the group was meeting for or the events to be taking place. They asked if there was going to be a speaker. They also were the first to leave the event.

Barbara, if you attend more meetups like we were discussing, you will se the format just about all follow.

Cindy, thank you for organizing the meet up at the ETCETERA yesterday, it was a lot of fun and very resourceful. Alexandra, the French bar owner, is so charming and the French pizzas are delicious.

Thanks for the meetup last night. I enjoyed getting to know some of you and it was a great venue. I look forward to talking with you more Cindy, about how some of the social, non-financial issues of boomers living alone can be addressed in future meet-ups.

It was nice to get to visit with you tonight. I think you and Laura should work on getting the belly dancing instructor to come teach us all a few moves! Hope to see you at the next meetup on the 29th. I will announce it to the group once I figure out exactly what the topic will be.
