3rd annual Passover Seder at Rick's

  • March 25, 2013 · 6:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

That time of year again! 3/25, 6:15pm. 24 max, RSVP for up to 3 additional.

For us fellow MOT (members of tribe) and those interested in finding out what a Seder is about.

In the Jewish tradition, let's do a Passover Seder together. This will not be overly religious! For those unfamiliar, the Passover observance starts with a huge meal and retelling of the story of Exodus. Did you see Charleton Heston in that old Exodus movie? Yeah, that's it. Lots of good food including chicken, matzha ball soup, Charoseth, gifilte fish, and at least 4 glasses of wine. Ok, you don't have to do the FULL glass each time the reading calls for it :)

Here's a link to more information than you'd care to know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passover_Seder

Let me stress, this is a fun celebration, not a somber occasion. This IS a kid friendly celebration.

If you would like to bring a dish, feel free though not required. Please note, nothing with any yeast or leavening agent.

Here are some links to some traditional items. Should you choose to bring one of these dishes, mazel tov! Please post a message here indicating what dish you'll bring. Items like Macaroons, gefilte fish, matzah, and a few others can be found in the ethnic section of local super markets.

A very festive occasion and a lot of fun. The people were great and the Manischewitz was flowing...for me anyway. Service itself was well run, compact and meaningful. Even though I'm MOT, I had forgotten the significance of Passover.

If you've never made it to one of Rick's seders or parties, you're missing out. If you look up generosity in the dictionary, you'll see his picture. And with the seder, opening his house to all, he fulfills the biblical commandment, You shall love the stranger for you were strangers in Egypt.

I don't think I have quite adjusted to your weather as I've come down with a cold. If I'm better tomorrow, I'll let you know.

Time is getting too short for me this week. Leaving Thursday for a long road trip. Sorry I have to back out at the last minute. Hopefully someone else can take my spot. :-(

I.ll try to bring macaroons or some thing like dessert, or salad. I'm totally psyched to be invited somewhere different this year. My Chasidic Rabbi can get long winded, making for a late night!

Is it okay if I come? I haven't been to anything yet, but this sounds amazing! I'd be happy to bring something (most likely purchased at the Bagel Deli lol). Let me know. :)

Yes ma'am! Bagel Deli is a great place. I go there often for Sunday breakfast. Just ask them what might be good for Passover. Thanks and look forward to meeting you.

I'll try to bring something too. Soopers has a 5 count Matzah bundle that I might pick up (that's five pounds of matzah folks!). Let's try to get some more folks for this great event.

Maybe a dessert item. Oi vey!

Looks like a great Seder...not being a fan of gefilte fish or Manischewitz, I'll sit this one out. But I'm rooting for Sagar finding the afikomen! Another generous and well planned event..well done Rick!
