This is a social group for people born and raised in the five boroughs. The group was originally Born-and-Raised Manhattanites, but sadly, there are not many of us left. So I am recreating the group to include all the boroughs. I thought it would be fun to connect with others from similar backgrounds, as I think there is something unique about having grown up here. Everyone I have met recently is a transplant, so that prompted me to start this group.

It’s okay if, as an adult, you moved away and came back – I have myself – the important thing is that you actually were born and raised in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, SI, or the Bronx. Also, I would hope that growing up here is a positive part of your identity. I previously lived in another city where there was a lot of anti-NY flack, and I want our members to love this city!

I’m not big on the bar scene or drinking, so this won’t be one of those massive come-and-party Meetups. This Meetup will be more for people who want to hang out in restaurants and cafes, with good conversation. I also plan to have specialized events, such as for singles, as well as other activities.

At the moment, we will be meeting in Manhattan. That may change over time but right now, please expect that.

Meetup organizers are required to pay a monthly fee in order to run a group. And it takes time and energy to plan events and manage membership. Therefore there will be a small fee for each Meetup (it will be higher when there is more extensive planning or expenses involved). I have learned from the past that if people are expected to pay at the Meetup, they often forget or they hate to be reminded. And it’s not fun for me to pester people for their fee when they are enjoying socializing. Thus the fee will usually be required ahead of time or it may be cheaper if paid then.

Meetups are based on people getting together around a particular common interest or background. This group is for people who were born in NYC and then grew up in NYC. We’re talking childhood and adolescence as a New Yorker. If it becomes evident that someone has misrepresented themselves in order to be in the group, they will be removed. In addition, if anyone acts in a manner that is inappropriate or makes others uncomfortable, they will be removed from the group. Lastly, those who promote their businesses on our webpage or who spend their group time doing so will be removed. You are welcome to network with each other when we meet, but it should be secondary to socializing. Thank you for respecting these rules.
I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone! :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
