Go sailing on the Charles (4pm)

Have you ever look out on the Charles river and wondered who those people are in all those sailboats? What it would be like to be out there in a boat, experiencing the sun, wind, and water? Well, here's your chance to be one of them, and find out.

We will meet at Community Boating, and go out for a short (1 - 1.5 hr) sail on one of their Sonars, an 8-person sailboat. No experience is necessary.

I'm planning on eating lunch nearby (probably Dim Sum, in Chinatown). If you'd like to come to lunch as well, please keep an eye out for that meetup event announcement, and sign up there. Let's keep the two things separate, so people can come to lunch only, or to sailing only, if they want.

There is also going to be an earlier sail, at 2:00pm. Please only sign up to ONE of the sailing meetup events. To give as many people a chance to go sailing as possible.

This event is weather dependent, so it may end up being cancelled if weather does not cooperate. And I will have detailed instructions later, so please check back here before the event.

Just to clarify something - I am NOT collecting any fees for this event. This event is FREE.

Turns out CBI does not allow members to charge a fee. So this event is officially free. However, I paid $250 for a membership this year so I could take Asian Professionals meetup members sailing. So I would not say no to a $10 donation. Strictly voluntary, of course.

If anyone can make it today at 5:30, I've opened up Friday afternoon sail to RSVPs until 5pm today.

Forecast has been getting worse. Check here on Saturday if we're still on. You can also try giving me a call [masked]).

    What to wear/bring:
Maybe some refreshments, sunblock/hat if it looks like it a sunny day. They have free day lockers. Bring a lock if you want to store stuff in one.

Dress for the weather. It can be a bit colder out on the water, with the wind. So unless it's really warm, you might want to bring a light jacket. Though we probably won't end up in the river, it's possible to get splashed w/ some water. Wear clothes you don't mind getting a bit of dirty water on.

Bring your CBI guest card, if you have one. If you forget, you will have to pay $5 to get a new one.

What to do once you get there:
If this is your first time, tell the person at the front desk you need to fill out a waiver form, and get a guest card (1st one is free).

Don't forget, there is a $10 fee for this event.

Keep fingers crossed for good weather!

For those of you who can get up early, I'm planning on going down to the boathouse early Saturday morning. We can do a morning sail before dim sum.

Ok, I'm arriving Boston Thursday night. So I can do an afternoon sail on Friday. Might also do a morning sail on Saturday. Any interest in dinner on Friday after sailing?

People on the waitlist: FYI, it's possible I may fly in to Boston on Thursday instead of Friday. If so, I might be able to do an additional sailing session Friday night. You'll have to be able to get to CBI by 5:30. Keep an eye out for the email announcing the meetup.

CBI is having an open house on May 31.

If you can't get a spot this time around, it looks like they'll be taking people out for free cruises that day.

Plus, I'll probably do another event like this later on in the summer/fall.
