Two circuits up and down Mt. Wachusett...then breakfast!

Time to see where your legs are! We will be hitting Mt. Wachusett for our first set of ladder circuits. We will be starting about 5 miles out for a warm up ride then heading to the top, back down to the base then turning around and heading right back up. After the ride there is a small cafe on 140 where we can get breakfast.

Here is the route:

Sorry Peter I'm not going to make it this morning.

I will be riding in from my house in Lancaster and will only be doing 1 hill climb with you before riding home because I need to save my legs for our family hiking trip in NH on Sunday morning. I also don't know Princeton very well, so I will probably meet at the mountain.

I'm going to try to make it.

I will be there too. Does 8am work better for everyone?

I did a study last week. It was to study the effect of binge eating in New Orleans.. I confirmed that it is possible to gain 12 Lbs in 64 hours

I did the same study last year when I went on a cruise. An extra climb up the Mt. will balance it out

I think I'll be going something like half-latte on this one :)

I am in for Wachusett not for training ride in Princeton, Ma.
But no worries, if you all decide for the BBQ. no worries.

I am probably not good enough to do these hills right now, but would like to join you guys in coming months, once I have trained more. Are there other hills in greater boston area for training the legs ? Any pointers will be helpful.
My current state: I can do 25 mile flat ride at around 12-13 mph, but hills really slow me down. I have a flat handlebar hybrid.

I've been doing hill searches by googling stuff like "mapmyride hills watertown ma" then scout out the route to make sure it's good.

What I do is look at topo maps and find hills targeting what I want -- either long steady climbs or short steep ones. Google maps has a 'terrain' feature which is reasonable, and ridewithgps has OSM Cycle Topo maps which are much better but slower to load (don't try it on your phone).

I forgot my friend is doing a half iron man that day. I am going to support her. Have fun. I'm bummed I'm missing it.

I have to work that Saturday... and the next one as well.

I will be changing the date of this ride to another day. No scheduled ride for tomorrow due to the heavy rain forecast.

    June 7, 2013

  • francesco d.

I am passing for Saturday.. sorry.

    June 7, 2013

  • Cem

Looks pretty rainy to me. We still in for tomorrow?

    June 7, 2013

  • RoJoGo

if it rains on Saturday, I'll do it Sunday. I hate the cleaning and re-lubing everything after a rain ride... makes such a mess.

Julie, LOVE your rider category listing LOL

Just remembered that the ride will be Saturday ONLY. I have a 5k that I am running on Sunday.

    June 5, 2013

  • Peter F.

I am checking the weather and if Sunday proves to be the better of the two days I may switch the day. If they are calling for light rain or scattered showers we will ride as posted.

    June 5, 2013

    • Lynne

Bummer - I cant make sunday..

Feedback on the weather? I heard rain?

Not sure I am Ready for these hills, can you give me some guidance? How long is the loop, how steep?

    1 · June 4, 2013

    • Peter F.

We are going to do two circuits from the base to the top at your own pace. If you can only do one ascent then that is fine. What I am looking to do is get a baseline for everyone if they are thinking of doing the Pain in the Mass.

      June 5, 2013

  • Julie P.

    Pancakes? I'm in!!!!!

    1 · June 3, 2013

  • Peter F.

If you are thinking about doing the Pain in the Mass I highly recommend that you do these training climbs.
