White Mountains (78/86mi)

  • Mountain Valley Mall

Route 16, North Conway, NH (map)

    44.054379 -71.128967

The base route is a 78 mile loop starting in North Conway, NH and heading north along route 16 into Gorham, then east to Gilead and back to North Conway via Hurricane Mountain (the hard way up). There is an optional 8 mile loop to climb cathedral ledge for anyone who wants to add in another mountain climb (cat4).

This route has a LOT of climbing and Hurricane Mountain (mile 66.81) has sustained climbs of 15-20% grade. You will be rewarded with some beautiful views in (my opinion) one of the nicest parts of NH. You'll even get a bonus mile or two in Maine :)

Rating Start/End Points Length Start/End Elevation Avg Grade

Team, are we still on for Sunday?

    July 22

  • Erin H.

I would love to do this ride but I can't do Sunday. I have a commitment Sunday afternoon. Hopefully I will be able to ride with you all soon.

  • Peter F.

Brandon, since this is your ride, do you want to drive my van as a SAG wagon so you can still be with us all?

Just a thought as I have no idea how many places on this route there will be for food and water.

I want to do this ride BUT I think it requires a bit more pre ride planning. I think whoever wants to do this ride we should drive up the night before and get a cheap hotel so we can ride bright and early.

Or we need to be in Conway ready to roll by 7am. Either way im fine with since Im an early riser

I'm intrigued by this ride...very TDFesque! Tres manifique!!!!

    July 17

    • Brandon

And just like the TDF, I'm going to pull a Contador and drop due to knee problems. I made you and Pete the event host, feel free to do with it what you will. I think my season is over.

I am still planning on riding this day leaving from north Woodstock if anyone else wants is still up for a ride. I may cut it down to 50 or so miles though

  • Brandon

I'm pretty sure my knee isn't going to be able to handle this ride. Could one (or more) of you with Garmins load the route and lead?

    July 11

    • Lynne

Im ok w reschedule also. My legs will need a break from climbing.

      July 15

    • Brandon

Date set for July 27th @ 7:30am based on date preferences from everyone who said yes.

Ok, since it looks like there is quite a bit of interest here, let's talk dates. Reply to this comment with a #1 and #2 vote for dates from this list and also a list of which dates don't work. Hopefully one of them works for everyone.

Another option is for everyone to join the White Mtn Grand Fondo. I did the Medio (55miles) last year and I am thinking of doing the 100 this year...end of Aug. Well organized. Check it out. http://www.whitemountaingranfon...

    Hmmm??

    • David J C.

I would be interested in doing this ride - I will be up there that weekend.

Another option is to start in Lincoln, go up kangamangus, across bear notch rd to 302, over to bike path/rt 3 back to lincoln

    1 · June 5

    • David J C.

Yes, except I would follow the bike path (it basically follows 93) and you never need to actually bike on 93

      June 5

    • David J C.

I don't know if I can handle the other climb - i have climbed kinsman notch before and its a beast
