International Folk Dancing at MIT with Live Music (Cambridge Folk Orchestra)

Their repertoire includes circle and couple dances from Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, and others) and around the world (Israel, France, Turkey, Russia, Armenia, Germany, China, Sweden, South Africa, even England and the US). Teaching and beginner dances from 8:00 to 9:00 pm. A mixture of all skill levels from 9:00 to 11:00. No experience necessary! Beginners are always welcome. Tonight's dance features live music by the Cambridge Folk Orchestra!

I have been to a couple of their dancing events as a total beginner and it was fun!

Really enjoyed dancing tonight and meeting new Meetups. Though a small group, as always, nice people. Instruction was given 8-9 and then a folk band warmed up the crowd further. The meeting room had changed from La Sala to Lobdell --I put a note on La Sala to re-direct people and I sincerely hope that no one got lost and left! I am now on this dance group's e-mail to receive any change of venue notices in the future. I think the MIT International Folk Dancing is a particularly fun event for meetups and hope we do it again. --Linda

    Hello, everyone.
I am going to drive over. Can someone advise where I can park my car?

You can try MIT parking lot for Bank of America ATM on Mass Ave. (between Albany & Vassar St) If that is full, find a spot on Mass Ave. towards Central Sq. You may find a spot on Main St. but not too close to Kendal T station (no parking usually around there). It is still a good walk (about 8 min +) to the student center building wherever you find a spot. Sunday evening is easier to find parking around there. Good luck and enjoy the dance!

Hi, everyone! I'm looking forward to helping host this event. I'll be there at 7:45 at the entrance to the hall with name tags. Please introduce yourselves if you are late. I was at a dance event here in the fall. It was a lot of fun and the teachers were patient with a dance novice like me. You may want to bring a water bottle, and be sure to wear comfortable shoes. the room is big enough to socialize in as well as dance. See you then! --Linda

The web site says that tonight's dance is in Lobdell, not La Sala, but on same floor.

What type of dance shoes work I have clogs

    February 17, 2013

Sorry did I answer Lauren's question before? Any comfortable shoes are OK but maybe not high heeled shoes because these dances involve quick movements. Clogs may be OK for dancing outdoor but MIT dance hall floor is wood and clogs may slip all over the place. Sneakers/flat shoes are fine. Boots - your feet may get too hot in those.
