This is the oldest public arboretum in North America, and it showcases at least 180 varieties of lilacs! Lilac Sunday, held since 1908, exhibits the pinnacle of lilac perfection. Take guided tours of the gardens, (there are different tour options), then sit back with a refreshment and enjoy acoustic music, storytelling, and traditional English dancing.

Street parking along the Arboretum perimeter is very difficult for this event and visitors are advised to take public transportation. [Quinn E. says:I say this every year, but in case you didn't hear- DO NOT DRIVE TO THE ARBORETUM ON LILAC SUNDAY! Take the Orange Line (it's a short walk from Forest Hills) or the 39 bus. Trust me.] DIRECTIONS: BELOW.
Directions by subway: click on the highlighted link above... 0range Line to Forest Hills. Walk down Washington Street, cross under the Overpass, turn left on Arborway. Distance .8 miles, a 15 to 20 minute walk. (Source: Googlemaps).
