Lilac Sunday - Arnold Arboretum – Boston (Jamaica Plain)

Mother's Day - Lilac Sunday - Arnold Arboretum - Boston - May 12, 2013
CHANCE OF SPRINKLES at 11 AM IS reportedly 1 in 3 according to my most reliable source:
http://www.timeanddate.com/weather/usa/boston/hourly

So put on your walking shoes, already!

This event is also being posted to Social Fun. FREE.

Tours of the lilacs, live music, food and picnicking from dawn to dusk with refreshments and activities from 10am to 4pm. We may camp out later for a while where the music is so bring a sandwich if you want to. Yes there are food vendors but there will be lines there.

Please sign up at 11:00 for the 11:30 tour leaving from the Hunnewell Lawn , leading to the Lilac Collection.
When you get to the Lilac Collection, we'll try & sign up for the 12:30 Lilac Collection tour leaving shortly thereafter.

This is the oldest public arboretum in North America, and it showcases at least 180 varieties of lilacs! Lilac Sunday, held since 1908, exhibits the pinnacle of lilac perfection. Take  guided tours of the gardens, (there are different tour options), then sit back with a refreshment and enjoy acoustic music, storytelling, and traditional English dancing.

Parking:

Street parking along the Arboretum perimeter is very difficult for this event and visitors are advised to take public transportation. [Quinn E. says:I say this every year, but in case you didn't hear- DO NOT DRIVE TO THE ARBORETUM ON LILAC SUNDAY! Take the Orange Line (it's a short walk from Forest Hills) or the 39 bus. Trust me.] DIRECTIONS: BELOW.

Directions by subway: click on the highlighted link above... 0range Line to Forest Hills. Walk down Washington Street, cross under the Overpass, turn left on Arborway. Distance .8 miles, a 15 to 20 minute walk. (Source: Googlemaps).

Arriving late, which direction will the group be heading so we can try to catch up? Thanks!

One of my group is in a cast which cannot get wet. We will be there later so things can dry out. I am hopeful that we will notice the group to say hello.

Earlier it's supposed to be sprinkling which will taper off. Advantage is, more fragrance, less crowding, & smooth sailing into the tours! Suits me!!

Latest forecast (timeanddate.com hourly) says likely clear at 11 AM, some slight chance of rain then clearing completely.
