Cambridgeport History Day Walking Tour

40 signups before the 3 "going" groups.

What about the cultures of the last centuries? In TIME? Where WE  live?
For the culturally curious. Remember, this was a colony of Great Britain.

This is co posted with various other meetups.

If you want some added excitement visit this nearby garrison park-- at the time an island-- the only intact one left from the revolutionary times. Still has it's heavy duty cannonades intact. There were many of them.

This free walking tour begins at 11:00 AM led by the director of the Cambridge Historical Commission. We get there 15 minutes early to say hello to the Meetup group. (Co-posted with multiple Meetups). Don't be surprised if you see tents being hoisted up for the Civil War re enactment (which will follow this tour).

Was Cambridge really a port? Where did Magazine Island get it's name? Who were "Tory absconders"? Why are some houses in the back yards of street-front houses? How did the locals keep grazing farm animals from climbing up their front porches? Why are some houses mirror images of each other? What did Cambridgeport have to do with oyster harvesting? Where were the original shorelines? Tramlines? What is the "greasy village"? Why do architectural styles change from block to block towards Central Sq?

Red Line subway to Central Sq., then head down Magazine St. Or bus # 47 from Central Sq.

Parking: Green St. Parking garage, 260 Green St. Then walk down Pearl St. (right there) 6 blocks to Lawrence St., turn right for one block to Magazine St.

I had to move closer to the guide to hear what he has to say, I think this was the biggest crowd he ever had. I think we could collaborate with more historical societies. Usually they are starving for attendee, and I think we broke their record.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
