Head of the Charles Regatta Photo Walk, about 3 miles

We can join South Shore Walkabouts for this walk and take pictures of the Regatta. A total of about 10 people max so we can stay together and move around easily.

This event attracts 9,000 athletes and 300,000 spectators. Rowers come from China, South Africa, Croatia, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The age of athletes spans from 14 to 85 years old with experience levels from novice to Olympic.

Head Of The Charles Regatta, the world's largest two-day rowing event, was first held on October 16, 1965. Over the past 46 years, the Head Of The Charles Regatta has welcomed the world's best crew teams to the banks of the Charles River for the ultimate two-day rowing competition.

We'll walk along the river for about 3 miles and stop for photos. Harvard and BU boat houses are open and we can peek inside and watch the teams prepare for the race.

The excitement: From the bridges we can see rowers moving at a pretty good clip and there's a good chance that one of the crews will have trouble making the turn at the bridge and crash into the abutment, or into another crew. Lots of drama. Lots to see and photograph.

Hungry? We can enjoy a cup of hot cider on the grassy slope just before the Eliot Bridge and there are food vendors all around.
Here is the danger zone in the race near the finish line.
