Jazz and All You Can Eat Brunch at Darryl's

Dear Boston Culture Lovers,

This is a little short notice, however I would like to host jazz brunch at Darryl's Corner Bar and Kitchen for this Sunday. Space is limited to 10 people.  This is an All You Can East Buffet for $23.

For restaurant and menu details, visit their web site at http://www.darrylscornerbarboston.com/

Parking Information

According to the web site, there are some parking options:

  • Northampton St. Parking Garage/Lot,
  • street parking, and
  • open parking lot located at Carter School (free).

This location is in the heart of the South End where parking is known to be difficult. I strongly recommend public transportation, the Orange Line, Massachusetts Avenue stop is only one block from this restaurant.

In order for this event to be successful, we will need to be organized and follow some rules.

1) RULE NUMBER 1 - Please show-up if you reserved "YES"

If you are a "MAYBE", please do not reserve "YES" please type “MAYBE” in t in the comments field for the event.

Reserving "YES" when you are a "MAYBE" is misleading and may be taking a space from someone who is on a waiting list. If you are “MAYBE” and you have reserved “YES”, you will be moved out of the “YES” list.
Organizers need to have an accurate attendance count to plan events. We need to know who and how many to expect.

*** If you are a "no-show", you may be removed from the group. ***

2) RULE NUMBER 2 - Be on time!

Please understand that it is not fair to ask those who have arrived early to wait for late comers. So please plan ahead and give yourself extra time to travel, park, and walk your way to the event. Consider possible traffic or waiting in line delays in planning your overall travel time.

If you are late, please understand that we cannot wait for you and guarantee that you will be able to join the group.

3) RULE NUMBER 3 - Please be financially prepared to pay for your meal including taxes and tip. (Taxes is 6.24% and group tip is typically 18%)

Just to explain the reasons for these rules, it is not fair for the restaurant to hold empty seats and lose business for latecomers and no-shows. Lateness and no-shows gives me a bad reputation. Such a bad reputation may affect our ability to make future reservations. As it is, Meetup groups already have a bad reputation at many establishments and some places will not even take Meetup reservations.

The only other expectation that I have is for people to have fun and be courteous to one another.

This should be fantastic event, and I am really looking forward to meeting new and familiar faces.

I walked by one memorial this morning, what was moved from Berkeley and Boylston to the front of what will be the Bank of America building (formerly Shreve, Crump & Low, before that FAO Shwarz). Oy! Hard being right around here.

The music, company and venue were all great. Thanks to Joana for another great event. Glad you all had a good walk to the memorial.

Great event and post-event. I figured the music would be good, but I was floored by how great it was, especially the special guest singers. The walk down to Copley was great as well, and I appreciated seeing the memorial at Copley Place. It hit home for me again, when there was a relative/friend of one of the victims all in tears as a Red Cross worker was letting her leave an item by her memorial space.

Great company, music, and food. Going together (on such a beautiful day) to the marathon memorial gave me a great sense of peace after such a harrowing week.

It was so nice to walk to the marathon memorial after brunch. After such an emotional week, it was so therapeutic to be out in the sun and among the peaceful crowd.

I'm here. A few minutes of 12. Anyone else coming?

I would like to reconfirm attendance. I know it has been a hard week. Can you please reconfirm by leaving a quick comment? Thank you.

I know you would never ever be a no-show! ;) See you tomorrow

No, never. Not unless the circumstances were dire. And we've had enough for, well, a long time .....

Please take note: There are 2 Red Sox Games on Sunday. The scheduled 1:35pm game and the makeup game from Friday which is scheduled for 7pm. Please factor that into your travel plans as Fenway is not far from the South End.

Sounds like a nice thing to do after a long and difficult week. I'll try to reschedule an appointment and will update my RSVP if I can't.
Why are there 3 open spots and someone is on the wait list?

    April 20, 2013

    • Karen

I'm shifting my appointment so I'm confirmed for this event.

      April 20, 2013

    • Joana

The setting for the waitlist is on manual, not auto. A lot of people make alternate plans while they are on a waiting list. People will clear from the waiting list as soon as they confirm.

Don't think we can make by 12, will try to make a reservation for a later time. Will free the spot, enjoy!

Have a new schedule conflict so leaving the waitlist.

I would love to increase the number of people for this event. However, a group reservation typicaly requires a deposit, $10 per person. The manager made an exception for me for this instance. For this reservation, we are okay. I am more thinking for future events, does anyone have ideas or experience with such group reservations? Since I don't feel comfortable in paying a $10 deposit for each person for future group reservation, I really another plan. I have seen other Meetup groups use Paypal to collect money in advance for such scenarios. I really wanted to avoid collecting any advance funds, however for some events, it may be necessary.
I would really like to not to miss out on offering such nice events because of this issue. If anyone has any feedback on using PayPal or other ideas in how to handle a reservation that reqires a deposit, I would love to hear from you.

I made the restaurant reservation. They told me that they will not seat the group until everyone arrives. I just wanted to give you fair warning if you are late, we will not be able to wait for you.

So please plan ahead and plan to arrive early so we can all be seated at 12noon.

Wish I could go, but I will be in Northampton. Next time!

I have a feeling this place is going to be a hit and we will most likely be repeating this event again and again.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
