Antico Forno - Lets have dinner in the North End!

Lets have dinner at the Antico Forno!

Antico Forno - Italian for "old stove"Sawdust-covered floors, a mural-sized rendition of the Tuscany countryside (painted by a local artist Jack Dunlea) and a blessed statue of St. Rocco tucked into a beehive-shaped, wood-burning brick oven set the stage at the North End's

***Parking and Directions***

Parking is very limited in the North End. However, the good news is that the restaurant validates parking for the Parcel 7 Garage next to the Haymarket T stop. $3 for 3 hours. Please see the web site for details, http://www.anticofornoboston.com/directions.html

I reccommend using public ttransportation, the nearest subway (T) stop is Haymarket station (Orange and Green Lines).

In order for this event to be successful, we will need to be organized and follow some rules.

  • Rule number 1 - Please show-up if you reserved "yes"

If you are a "maybe", please reserve "no" and write "maybe" in the notes field or simply say "maybe" in the comments field for the event. Reserving "yes" when you are a "maybe" is misleading and is taking a space from someone who is definitely attending. If you are a "no-show", you may be removed from the group.

  • Rule Number 2 - Be on time!

When we have a large group, please understand that it is not fair to ask those who have arrived early to wait for late comers.

Just to explain the reasons for these rules, it is not fair for the restaurant to hold empty seats and lose business for latecomers or no-shows.  Lateness and no-shows gives me and the Meetup groups a bad reputation which may affect our ability to make future reservations. As it is, Meetup groups already have a bad reputation at many establishments and some places will not even take Meetup reservations.

If you are late, please understand that we can not wait for you and can not guarantee that you will be able to join the group.

  • Rule Number 3 - Please be financially prepared to pay for your meal including taxes and tip. (Taxes is 6.24% and group tip is typically 18%)

The only other expectation that I have is for people to have fun.

This should be a pleasant event and I am really looking forward to meeting new and familiar faces.

Great event and "after-party", this was so fun, I didn't feel bad about not going to the live music afterward :) It was great to see new and familiar faces. Looking forward to the next one!

Thanks to Joana for another fabulous event!! I had a wonderful time : ) The wine tasting before the dinner was very nice and the companions are superb!! I wish I had the energy to go for the famous coffee and pastry at North End afterwards – next time.

any way to add more people to the meet up?

    January 11, 2013

    • Joana

Sure, just come at 8p and we will get a few more chairs. I am expecting a couple more last minute cancellations.

      January 11, 2013

    • Dmitry G.

looks like I will be one of those cancellations, will see you guys next time

      January 11, 2013

  • Karen

I will be there. See you soon!

If you have been keeping up with all your reading, Karen may not be at the bar for the pre-Meetup gathering at 6:30pm. Dinner is still on for 8pm, just want to clarify that. People are still welcome to come to the bar before dinner time.
However, I will not be able to take the lead for this pre-meeting event for I have other plans, to walk around this charming neighborhood before dinner time. During my walk, I plan to visit the Wine Bottega (http://thewinebottega.com/) at 341 Hanover Street, they are hosting a free wine tasting event from 5 to 8pm. If you like to sample some wines before dinner, you are welcome to join me, just go to the Wine Bottega. I plan to arrive there at 6:30pm. Don't forget to be back to the restaurant by 8pm for dinner.

Pre-dinner drinks: We'll meet at Antico Forno in the bar area at 6:30 for pre-dinner drinks and possibly appetizers if people want. Look for me. I'm planning to hang there til dinner so come whenever you can. Looking forward to seeing you!

Hey Folks, I need to go to a doctor's appointment this afternoon unexpectedly. As of now, I still plan on attending but just wanted to give you a heads up that I might not be there for drinks. Hope you'll find each other if I'm not there.

      January 11, 2013

    • Joana

Karen, I am sorry to hear about your unexpected appointment. I am glad to hear that you are definitely coming to dinner.

Joana what will be the easiest for all regarding payment at restaurant. Should we all bring cash and will it be one bill or separate. I want to be prepared. Tks. Fell sunday and still in pain so will pass on dancing...till next time

    January 11, 2013

    • Joana

The restaurant will issue one bill. I can try to negotiate separate or smaller bills when I get there, but they told me it would be on one big bill. It is always best to bring cash, however the bill can always be paid by multiple credit cards.

Looking forward to this, and it looks like Ryles has a nice show tonight (Dan Fox) if people want to catch some live music afterward:

I may be up to going to Ryles. It all depends how late we stay at the restaurant. Great idea!

Sounds like a good show. Maybe.

So far, the plan is to meet at 6:30 for the pre-dinner period. I'll be the point person. I'd prefer a bar to a cafe, since all those pastries are a lot of temptation for someone who's gluten free. (I checked the restaurant and there's a gluten free menu) So if anyone has a non-pastry oriented idea for a location, please post. Otherwise, I'll deal with Paradiso.

    January 10, 2013

    • Diane

      I prefer a bar also.

      January 10, 2013

    • Karen

The restaurant has a bar area in which we could have a few drinks before dinner. I propose we meet at Antico Forno at 6:30 before dinner. Please look for me. If meetup lets me, I'll send a note with my cell phone. And if you know you're coming, post a comment and we'll look for you.

      January 10, 2013

  • Diane

I can meet at paradiso also. About 630

    January 10, 2013

  • Karen

If anyone wants to hang out somewhere for drinks before dinner, please let me know. I don't know the North End well so I have no suggestions. But I work in the Back Bay and it's pointless to go home. Socializing would be better than shopping. :)

    January 9, 2013

    • Elisa

I am pretty flexible but 6:30 pm probably works the best for me.

      January 9, 2013

    • Amy H.

Hello, I am new member for this meetup group and I would like to meet before dinner. :)

      January 10, 2013

  • Joana

Karen suggested for some of us to meet before dinner. Dinner is at 8pm and some of work in Boston and will be hanging around in the area before dinner time. On Hanover there are lots of coffee shops. I suggested a meeting at a nearby cafe, like Cafe Paradiso, Caffe Paradiso, 255 Hanover St before the event. We could meet there and then walk around, depending on weather? Let me know time. If anyone else is interested, please write a comment and say what time you could meet. I could meet as early at 6pm?

    January 9, 2013

  • Joana

It is about 5 days until this event. I know that many of you made your reservation awhile ago and ask that you double check your schedule. If you are no longer able to attend, please change your reservation to not-attending. Space is limited and we have a few people on the waiting list. Thank you.

    January 6, 2013

    • Karen

      I plan to be there.

      January 7, 2013

  • Cindy

I was wondering if there is a waiting list or you can add more to the reservation. Thanks

    January 3, 2013

    • Joana

Hi Cindy, Sorry, I did not realize that the waiting list was inactivated. I just added you to the waiting list. You are first on the list. As we get closer to date, I suspect that there may be some cancellations.

Well, North End is a cool place to be, especially after New Years :-)

    1 · December 18, 2012

  • Joana

I just increase the group limit from 10 to 15.

    December 18, 2012

  • Joana

Wow! I posted this event less than an hour ago and it is almost full. This events sounds like a hit! If there is more interest, I can increase the number of people in the restaurant reservation. Please, please only reserve "yes" if you have every intention of going. I will definitely reconfirm attendance.
