User Friendly Data Mining

Featured speaker - Dr Ingo Mierswa
Topic - "Data Mining for the Masses: 3 practical use cases and 1 just for fun"

First off ; thanks to the many of you for signing up for this meetup group. Since one of our goals is to bring data mining to the masses it’s fitting that our first meetup should focus on user friend data mining tools.

We’ll start the evening with a review of open source (as in free) and GUI enabled data mining tools. These tools should be useful to the programmer and non-programmer alike.

We will also dig deeper into one of the most powerful open source data mining platforms available. Our main speaker of this meetup will be Dr Ingo Mierswa. Dr Mierswa is a renowned data mining expert as well as the CEO and co-founder of Rapid - I. Rapid-I is responsible for Rapid Miner – one of the earliest leading open source software in business analytics and business intelligence. Dr Mierswa received his PhD in Data Mining from the University of Dortmund in Germany.  His talk is titled: "Data Mining for the Masses: 3 practical use cases and 1 just for fun"

Finally many thanks to the folks at Hack/Reduce for allowing us to hold our inaugural meetup at their wonderful space. If you haven’t been there before it is worth the trip just to check it out.

    Sheamus,
As I mentioned to you at last night's meet-up, I can provide some discounted tickets to the MIT CIO Symposium ( www.mitcio.com/agenda ) coming up on May 22nd. If any members are interested, search for me on LinkedIn and send a request for a ticket.

It was a nice introduction to Miner-I and I came away with a couple of ideas that I might try.

Accomplished the goal - Novices to data mining and predictive analytics should feel comfortable that they can quickly use these tools to learn and to accomplish results from simple, initial projects.

Scheduling conflict for me, too. Will the talk be recorded or broadcast via Google Hangouts, perhaps? Will the slides be available afterwards?

We will definitely see if we can record the main talk and post any relevant slides

Would it be okay if I make it by 7, 715? Would a significant portion of the talk pass by then?

    May 6, 2013

    • Sheamus M.

My guess is that the main talk will start at 7 or a little before so if you show at 7pm you should get most of it.
