From what I'd hope to happen, new players join this great hobby, existing ones find new friends and join new/start new groups, and an impromptu game among friends is never a bad thing ;-)

Unfortunately (or in some ways fortunately) I won't make it today's meeting, as I've a commitment (I promised to take my kids to the Higgins Armory Star Wars Day to see the 501st) that I need to uphold, and didn't realize the conflict until earlier this week when it was to late to reschedule. Anyway I'm probably the least important part everyone getting together, so hopefully great things will happen despite (or maybe because of) me not being there.

Any version of D&D is fine (and any other game in the greater Role-Playing family) and we've had players as young as 7 (my own) jump into impromptu games, which this is not necessarily intended to accomplish but it happens from time to time.

Hey everyone, I won't be able to make this meeting as I'm not moving back to Cambridge until July, but I wanted to get a feeling for how this group works. I've been out of tabletop gaming since D&D 3rd edition (and had been playing Heroes more than D&D towards the end), and haven't touched any tabletop RPG'S since then as I have not been able to find a group. I see that this meeting is more of a get together for people to meet, are there any groups in Cambridge that play weekly or bi-weekly?

Mandy: also some of us have gone back to old-school D&D variants that are like 1st Edition

D, In general, the monthly meetup is more of a meet-n-greet. It is coincidental that we're running a demo scenario using Pathfinder this time.

John, Yes, you are welcome to pregen. Though it isn't required, it'll make setup faster. I will also bring several pregens for people to use. Roll 4d6 (drop the lowest roll) for stats. Use this outline if you need a guideline: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/character-creation

I'm a newcomer and new to D&D and will likely be there. Looking forward to it!

Hi Folks, Quick question from me being new and all: Do i need to "pre-generate" a character, or is that done on the fly there ? Also, i've only played pathfinder before...

Looking forward to meeting y'all. If you're around PAX East on Sunday (today, after some sleep) feel free to message me, maybe we could do a dungeon delve.

Newcomers are always welcome! Bringing a rule book is not required. Most of the rules are available online (legally!) anyway:

    3.5: http://www.d20srd.org/

    Pathfinder: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/

Howdy all. I haven't played tabletop D&D in a long time; would a newcomer be welcome? Also, are there any books or things I should bring?

Mandie, a lot of folks play 3.5, 4, and Pathfinder. I spoke with Christian at the last meeting and volunteered to run a Pathfinder demo game at the next Meetup. It's basically "3.75".

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
