This was my first introduction to the Boston FinTech community and it was much more than I was expecting. Very, very happy I went.

Question about guests, I added George Popescu as my guest and included his name in the comment field. Is that good enough or do we have to email the name somewhere?

    September 17

    • Ty Danco

That's good enough. Excellent guest, he'd be worthy of an interview session all by himself.

Some of my topics to start us off for future meetups: -perhaps a monthly short interview with a CEO/Founder, especially a successful one (Apama, Charles River Development, Eze Castle, etc.)
-relevant Boston topics (e.g., "What happened with Perk Street")
-VC Show and Tell, explaining why s/he funded--or didn't fund--fintech startups.
    -UX/UI/Design talk
-Bringing in the most popular old talks from other meetups, e.g., Big Data, algos, etc.
-Bitcoin and other mathematical currencies...with a lawyer
    -Demo Day
-Huge local asset manager (Fidelity, Wellington, Harvard, Putnam, etc.) CTO talk about challenges selecting and integrating various external software solutions

You get the idea. So what else should be doing? Let us know if you can deliver a ringer. Or for that matter, a beer and pizza sponsor.

    September 3

    • Damon Magnuski

I can potentially deliver a ringer in some of those areas, let me put together a list and we'll see if we already know the same people.

I would like to see a running calendar of FinTech events. I am putting one together, but I am guessing it is far from complete. Perhaps I can just post them on the meetup.

    • Ty Danco

There is probably some wiki here. As long as it doesn't become scammed by people, I'm all for it. What type of events are you talking about other than meetups?

      September 4

    • Damon Magnuski

Examples would include time tables for entry to accelerators like MassChallenge, pitch contests like Innotribe and Finovate, FinTech related hackathons, talks at various Universities, trade shows, etc. We could have someone vet calendar items to prevent spam. It would be nice to have all of the events in one place, and it might attract sponsors if the group becomes large enough. While we are in the early stages now, it might be a good idea to co-host events with Mass Innovation Nights, Tech Cocktail, University incubators, trade missions, and other startup community networks in the region.
