This summer, Tom and I have attempted to plan smaller groups with multiple showings in order to avoid the long table of 14 in loud restaurants in which participants have to shout in order to be heard.
From time to time, it has worked to have a multitude of people meetup for films and discussion with multiple tables. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, planned by Susan G in place of the Drive-In, was an enjoyable evening of Hurricanes and Tequilas at Border Cafe. The Debt, organized by Shirley on Labor Day, was a magical 'last great night of summer' gathering of two tables with new members, old stalwarts, assistant organizers, and Doyle's usual 'best to remind them we're out here' service.
Shirley and I are working on a new kind of Meetup event in which a small group makes a reservation at a quiet restaurant in order to enjoy a great post-film discussion along with fine food. We are always trying to find a way to let members know that their participation in our group is valued, so we hope to offer these events from time to time to different folks. If you are interested, let us know and we'll let you know when one is scheduled.
For example, we might make reservations at Hungry Mother for discussion of a film at the Kendall. We might make reservations for 8 at Fugakyu for a film at the Coolidge. Any film at Harvard? Fuggedaboudit!
If you are interested in these kind of events, please respond with your e-mail address so that we can include you in our data base. Please know that we will continue to post the usual events at the usual venues, and are working hard to increase the number and types of films our group of dedicated assistant organizers offer for the general membership.
Every once in awhile, we thought it would be nice to invite you to a special evening!
See you at the movies,
