Event Attendance and Group Policy

Hi everyone,
Over the past weekend we had 19 people RSVP Yes for an event at Kendall and 8 people showed. For an MFA event we had 11 Yes's and 4 people showed. The majority of these no-shows were new members. This is a huge problem.

We are limited to the number of restaurants where we can have our post-film discussions and if we continue to make reservations for 19 and barely half the number attend, we will lose grace with these restaurants. And then where will we go for our discussions? Obviously the ongoing success of the group depends on people RSVP'ing for the events which they truly are interested in attending and changing their RSVP's when they can not make it. If you only plan on seeing the film and not joining us for the restaurant discussion, state so in your comment, so the event's organizer can make a better reservation estimate.

There are only two restaurants in the vicinity of the Kendall Theate which can accomodate us.

As I've done in the past, I'll be enforcing a tougher attendance policy: No-Shows are subject to immediate removal from the group. I'll primarily be targeting new members who have no history with the group and may be accustomed to RSVPing for things that " look interesting, maybe I'll go " with other Meetup Groups.

Also, until this problem is cleared, the group has been closed to new members.

Our membership includes so many great people and as a group we've had many memorable and interesting discussions. Please don't spoil the fun.
