Introduction

Hi everyone, My name is Paul Kuhne and I'm the new Community Liaison at HI-Boston, newly located in Chinatown. Since Hostelling International recently took over the International Volunteers Boston group, I wanted to introduce myself. -Paul

Which countries or US states have you been to?

I've been to countries in Latin America and Europe including Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Mexico and Venezuela. In Europe I've been to Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and England. In the United States, I've spent time in the Northeast of the United States as well as Wisconsin, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, California, Washington, Louisiana, Florida and Oregon.

Have you ever participated on a volunteer-based trip before? If so, where and what did you work on?

Yes. During my undergraduate studies, I participated in a service learning trip to Tijuana, Mexico where we constructed infrastructure for local schools there including sidewalks, stairs and handicap ramps. I also participated in a service learning trip to New Orleans where I learned about the ecological damage caused by Katrina while simultaneously helping restore the environment there.

What would you most like to get out of being part of this meet up group?

I would like to ensure that there are consistent meet ups, ideally hosted at our new hostel in Chinatown, that can engage hostel guests, community travelers and the public at large.

  • Thanks Paul for the warm welcome. I could certainly lead a meetup some time. I'd like first to attend a few to see how these are held and what is the audience like :-) I've been very actively involved with conservation volunteerism since 2008, and will be glad to share my experience, as well as get maybe few people to join me in some of the next projects that I am researching: Kiwi, Kakpo in New Zealand, Orangutans in Borneo or Sumatra, Mammals survey in Brazil and or Madagascar to list a few...

  • Hey Paul,
Thanks for the welcome. My school schedule will be starting up in a few weeks so unfortunately I'll be limited to holidays and winter/spring breaks for travel but I'll be happy to get involved in organizing and getting involved locally.
