Watch the Boston Marathon and have a cookout!

Come to a private courtyard directly on the race route for a fun, casual cookout and party. You needn't be a racing fan or a runner, this is just to enjoy the spectacle and some convivial company.

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided along with vegeburgers and veggie dogs. Please bring a snack, salad, dessert, or side dish, or something else to throw on the grill, and/or something to drink.

Alcohol is permitted, on the condition that you do not bring it beyond the gate of the courtyard where we will gather. On private property, drinks are no problem (in fact, quite welcome) but once you cross the threshold to the public sidewalk you risk the Boston Police giving you a ticket and a hefty fine. You also creating difficulty for our host who would like to remain on good terms with the police where he lives.

There will be no parking whatsoever; nor even driving, in the immediate area. The best approach is to take the Green Line B train to South Street stop, which is almost directly next to where the party is. If you are coming from another town by car and need parking, please contact Jane Friedlander in advance to make arrangements. She can offer a few parking places at her condo within easy walking distance.

It felt good and right to be out there having fun on this year's Boston Marathon compared to the mess of last year's Boston Marathon.

It was nice meeting some new people and had some good conversation.

    Hi Jane and Glenn
Thanks for offering, but I decided to attend another event that will be easier to get to. Have fun!

Sorry to scare you off! For anyone else who may be wondering, my condo is only a few minutes' walk and I do have guest parking available.

It sounds like a nice time. I had been thinking about where I would be watching the marathon, so I am happy you planned something. It will be great to meet other people.

If it's raining heavily or steadily, or very cold, we will cancel. Past years have been ok.

    Hi Jane
I will be coming from Watertown. Any chance of parking? Where is South Street?

There is no parking at all. If you want to park at my condo complex, I can get you a guest spot. Message me privately for the address and my phone number. The South St stop is the second to last stop on the B train of the green line. There are also bus stops near by at Chestnut Hill Ave and Oak Square. Oak Square is a bit of a hike but doable for someone reasonably healthy.

Laura and I went to this last year. It was a fun social event. People just showed up and were friendly. And when the bad news happened, it was good to be there with fellow Marathon fans instead of alone.

You were so right not to have me call it off, John. It was better to be among friends when we heard about the horror.
