About Boston Old Path Sangha (BOPS)
We are a Bhuddhist sangha practicing meditation and mindfulness in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
We have regular meetings several times a week at different locations. These are our regular "sittings"--meetings in which we practice sitting and walking meditation, read a short passage on the dharma (Buddhist teachings), and share our insights into the teachings and trying to bring mindfulness practice into daily life. You can come to any of these sittings without RSVPing.
We also have occasional days of mindfulness, when we gather for a more extended period (usually only half a day, despite the name) to practice together a bit more intensively. These days of mindfulness often focus on some particular theme.
New people who want to learn more about meditation, mindfulness, etc. are always welcome at any of our regular sittings or days of mindfulness. One of our experienced members will be happy to introduce you to the basics of the practice and answer and questions you have.
About Thich Nhat Hanh
In addition to being one of the most respected Buddhist teachers alive today, Thich Nhat Hanh (or "Thay"--Vietnamese for teacher--as he is often affectionately referred to) is a peace activist and poet. He lives in exile in Plum Village, France, and has monasteries in New York state and California. His teachings emphasize bringing mindfulness practice out of the meditation hall and into both our daily lives and efforts to take compassionate action to make the larger world a better place (a movement known as engaged Buddhism).
Though we focus on Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings, we are fairly eclectic and sometimes share readings by other teachers, both Buddhist and non-Buddhist. Although our practice is very much rooted in the Buddhist tradition, you do not necessarily have to identify as Buddhist, religious, etc. to sit with us--anyone interested in mindfulness is welcome.
