Meet like-minded folks and share in the harvest at a permaculture potluck! follow-up to meeting: 1) link to Mary Cummings Park, 200 acres in Woburn and Burlington but owned by the city of Boston - most of it is "fallow" and could accommodate a good-sized edible landscape: http://cummingspark.org/ - see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Cummings_Park 2) contact info for Kate Kennen of Offshoots, who is working with the Franklin Park Coalition and is interested in edible plants: http://offshootsinc.com/about-us/our-staff 3) recent news article about Menino's plan to sell City land for housing - some of that land might be a good site for a food forest, and its abutters might think so too: http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2013/09/08/mayor-thomas-menino-pushes-plan-boost-boston-housing-production/8TJliJO3PcWL1S4FOTNbUI/story.html

Hi Allison - I should have just copied that file containing the slide show onto the laptop while it was in there. Why don't I just mail the CD to you and leave it up to you to figure out how to share it with others. First I may add a new side about the Cincinnati project I just found out about.

That would be most appreciated! You can send to Allison Meierding / 30 Hutchings Street / Dorchester MA 02121 Thanks very much! Also, I wondered if you knew about the orchard/food forests going on in Philadelphia? I'm not sure how far along they are... http://phillyfoodfore... and http://www.phillyorch...

Hey everyone. I wish I had been able to attend. I've been hoping to get involved in a food forest project in the Boston area. I'm still new to permaculture, but I really want to learn more and connect with folks.

    Next time!

    • Allison M.

There will definitely be other meetings!

I just heard about another "food forest", this one in Cincinnati, a city I lived (and foraged) in in the early 1980s. Robin Corathers, the woman leading this project, is someone I know. I'll have to add info about this one to my PowerPoint show! http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/153770-healthy-people-healthy-river-urban-forest-takes-root/

Do we get to meet the chickens?

    September 10, 2013

    • Allison M.

Absolutely! As long as you get here before dark. They go to bed at dusk.

      September 10, 2013

What's the parking situation at the meetup?

    September 10, 2013

    • Allison M.

There is street parking on Hutchings Street. There should be spots within the block and there is no need for residential sticker or anything. While there is a parking lot right next to our house, I do not recommend parking there.

I'm interested in hearing more, but am traveling from work and won't be home until later that evening. I'll try to make the next one.

What's the nearest subway station ? Love to go!

    September 4, 2013

    • Allison M.

Hi! Closest subway is Jackson Square orange line (1 mile away) and you could pick up the bus 22 or 29 and take to Humboldt/Seaver or you can take bus 44 to Humboldt/Hutchings. You could also walk from Stony Brook orange line stop (also about a mile). Let me know if you have more questions!

    • Helen S.

I'd likely be driving from Cambridge, would be happy to bring people from this side of the river (that'd justify me driving.. sigh..)

      September 4, 2013

  • Allison M.

Everyone's welcome, even if you just want to check in and see what folks are up to!

I can't make it, but if folks want to come see a great Food Forest example in Massachusetts, please bring a group to tour Paradise Lot in Holyoke, MA... FoodForestFarm.com

    • Allison M.

Eric Toensmeier and Jonathan Bateman really made an inspiring food forest in their backyard -- so much so that my partner and I decided to transform our own after going to their annual October edible tasting tour. It's coming up, I recommend it to anyone. Or let's make a date and get a bunch of us together for a tour! http://www.permacultu...

I will be out of town then, but I just love that you are doing this. I hope to be able to visit sometime.

    1 · August 31, 2013

    • Iris W.

That would be very cool. An alternative would be to host me where you are. I would be happy to do something down your way.

      1 · August 31, 2013

    • Allison M.

That's a great idea, let's be in touch about that. Going over the River seems to be the main impediment.

      1 · September 1, 2013

will try to come, delighted you're doing this

I'm putting it in the schedule. Three kids at home and nursing school starting so can't be sure. But I'm more than willing to do I anything I can to help.
