Start building swales

Assuming the snow will be gone, we will start building swales to catch the spring thaw and keep it where it will help the future food forest. I would like to get the oxen involved, so if you've even been pining to drive oxen, here is your chance.

Huge Thanks to everyone who came by to help. Never thought we'd get that much done. I even got about 20 feet of the trench in front of the Hugelkulture berm done. I hope I can return the help to you.

We may have to change the emphasis tomorrow. The ground is pretty frozen, I checked. I have always wanted to use the pigs to rototill the garden but I've never had pigs this time of year so I think we'll start with setting up fences and moving them into there. We can still work on setting up the swales but I don't think we'll be able to finish it tomorrow. Also, anyone who wants manure is welcome to take some home with them.

OMG I'm so excited, I want to make swales! Could we find a way to thaw out a bit of ground if it is frozen? do you have a rocket mass heater? could we heat up some stones and spread them along a patch of ground so we can at least dig a few feet? it would bring me a great sense of accomplishment. I"m marking it in my calendar, would love a ride from SOmerville/camrbdige area. And grass-fed burgers yes! would LOVE to try your food, Paul!

Hi Joshua, I have someone helping me for spring break and I am going to have him clear a path. Hopefully, the March sun will soften the ground.

Looking forward to earth works! I'll bring my muck boots, anything else to help out?

Sure thing, I'll put a couple shovels in the car. I have a few a-frame levels and flags- want me to bring those too?

Thanks Seth, I have flags. I am planning on using wooden stakes to mark the level.

I was planning on providing grass-fed burgers around 3 for anyone who wants to stick around. I'll also have salad for anyone who doesn't eat meat.
