Beyond Apex Testing and 75% Code Coverage

The meeting is in Walden Conference room next to Main Reception.

Next Developer Meetup coming to Bedford Area, this time we are going to talk all about Testing on Salesforce Platform and importance of Test Classes.

Laurent Poulain, Business Intelligence Specialist and Senior Apex Developer at Progress Software is going to present a session on Apex Testing, followed by cool Trivia and Round Table.

Session Overview

If you think that getting your apex tests to cover 75% of your code (or even 99%) means thorough testing, think again! There is indeed much more to testing that what Salesforce requires. We will review when testing can help the most, what types of tests you can write beyond just statement coverage, testing methodologies, and how it all works in the Salesforce environment.

I also have some real cool books on Heroku to give away this time.

For those who are interested, I have released on GitHub the code of my DebugLog class that allows the Apex code to pass some debugging information for the tests to verify: https://github.com/lpoulain/DebugLog

Thanks Laurent for sharing your DebugLog class code, this would help us implement White Box testing.

The class itself is pretty simple. But it might give you some ideas on what you can track. Also, don't hesitate to open an Issue on Github for suggestions on how to improve it.

Hey guys, I really liked Laurent's suggestion of putting synchronous test runs back into the UI, so I made it an idea. Vote it up here!

Like Rakesh, I'd be interested in a Google hangout. As someone who is actually based in Boston, Bedford is too far away to considered traveling to.

This is a great topic that's near and dear to me! I'm looking forward to hearing Laurent's perspective and experience on the matter of testing for function, not coverage.
