Shining Sea Bikeway (Falmouth, MA)

Shining Sea Bikeway Parking AreaTo reach the Shining Sea Bikeway, take Route 24 south to 1-495 south to the Bourne Bridge. From points north, take Route 3 south to the Sagamore Bridge rotary. Follow the signs to Buzzards Bay/Falmouth, then cross over the Bourne Bridge. From Bourne Bridge: travel Rt. 28 south to Falmouth. Fork right onto Locust Road Entry to the bikeway parking area is a mile down on the right just past Pin Oak Way. The newer North Falmouth parking area is located on the corner of County Road and Route 151.

I cancelled the Vineyard trip because I wanted to do some research on it before leading 20+ folks there, so instead we're going to do the Shining sea bikeway!

The starting point is
County Road
North Falmouth, MA 02556
use this for your GPS, this spot is where we both start the ride and have free parking.

http://www.falmouthmass.us/deppage.php?number=38

Path is 21 miles round trip - there are some beautiful views of the coast!
Please be sure that you are capable of riding 21 miles in length and have a road/hybrid in good condition.

We will split the group into a fast group 14-16mph and a slower group 10-13mph. I can lead the 14-16 mph group and will need help with folks to follow up the end.

Suggested items to bring:
1) Spare tube (and tire if you have them)
2) Sunscreen
3) Snack Food
4) 2 Water Bottles
5) Bathing Suit for possible dip!
6) Sense of humor
7) Helmets Mandatory**

I would recommend bringing a few granola bars or something small. I would plan to get lunch after the ride back in Falmouth after 12pm. We will likely grab some lunch/ice cream after the ride in Falmouth.

Read up on this ride and watch the video review of the ride. http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090613/NEWS/906130315

Dan, Thanks for a wonderful meetup ride!

I don't see the paypal link on this page for a donation. Maybe only on prospective posted meetups?

Sorry if this is a repeat msg. I'm not good at this messaging stuff:

Dan Kent: There are two map references, "Country" and "County Rd" They come up different on the map.

Chris, I live in Sharon. Would be interested in car-pooling!

Major difference. If you do not put in North Falmouth, you will not be anywhere near the parking lot. This is a really simple mistake and google does not make a distinction.

I'd be interested in carpooling. I live in Norwood and have a car so could drive or would be happy to ride down with someone.

    • Chris H

I sent you a message with contact info. Send me a text or call and we can make arrangements.

When I say message I mean email.

  • Ed (.

Definite maybe if I can get a ride from Sharon.

    June 12, 2013

  • Steve

I've done this path, it's a good ride. As of today, the weather should be perfect. Might be a little cooler by the water, but that's OK.
