Given the potential for rain on Saturday, shortening this ride in hopes that we could sneak it in before or after any showers, I will be watching the forecast and likely cancel Friday night as I know people would be traveling too far to make a last minute call.
We are going to be cycling a road loop starting in Newburyport, following mostly country roads through Newbury, Byfield, West Newbury, Merrimac, Amesbury and back to Newburyport. It will run 25 miles give or take
I hope to maintain consistent pace of 12 to 15mph, with little to no stopping. If you're not aware of how fast you spin on a group ride, this is probably not a good ride to join. This ride is for two types of cyclists: 1. advanced riders who are looking for a light workout, or a tune up as their first seasonal outing, 2. Intermediate riders that have been cycling for several seasons, and have already logged between 50 and 100 miles this year.
The course is reasonably flat with a few rollers. We'll be on State highway (Rt 1A, and Rt 113) twice for a total of about 4 miles but the 1A traffic in that area is typically light.
The itinerary and cues for this ride are available here: http://www.mapmyride.com/us/newburyport-ma/38-mi-groveland-loop-route-209288219
Start point will be the Middle school in Newburyport, which has free parking.
If you are driving, when facing the school from Low Street in Nbpt, the parking lot is to the right.
The commuter rail is not a viable option for this ride as the earliest train gets to newburyport at 10:31am.
