Classic/Deep/Tech/Tribal/Progressive House, Techno and some down-tempo/trip-hop. I started with commercial progressive and electro some years ago (Bob Sinclar, Benassi, even Guetta :/ ) and slowly Detroit and the right people there have taken over my EDM taste, in the right direction. I still love progressive house but it's hard to come by good tracks these days, and those producers that used to be good are now turning into junk. Also really hard to find a decent big name progressive DJ live set, all the current ones (T. Gold, SHM, Alesso, Avicii) sounds awfully similar and play the same tracks and mash-ups, and even the same sets. Respect to the old schoolers like Roger Sanchez and of course Carl Cox, for keeping it real. I could talk about this for hours.
Carl Cox, Derrick May, the old SHM (R.I.P), Erick Morillo, Gui Boratto, Solomun, Maya Jane Coles, Max Vangeli (compatriot), Bob Sinclar, Kaskade and deadmau5 (when he was making good stuff back in the day).
The best shows I experienced were usually in small, underground, intimate places and not commercially known DJs. They tend to have the most versatile and flavorful sets. From the bigger ones, definitely Carl Cox. He's got energy, charisma and amazing track selection. Saw him in a Detroit club, with a customized festival sound system. Blew my mind. Funkagenda and Roger Sanchez have had some memorable and energetic sets. Axwell and Bob Sinclar at Mansion in Miami during WMC week, 2 years ago. But that might've had something to do with the fact that I wasn't quite sober. In fact, I don't remember much, only that it was great. And as much as I don't like Trance, gotta give it to Armin - he makes great shows, never repetitive, and always true to his genre. Hearing him at Ultra was impressive, waaaay more impressive than Tiesto. And he's got great energy, looks like a kid playing with his favorite toys.
Hi, I'm 25, just moved to Boston a few weeks ago. I'm an accountant by day and EDM fan pretty much 24/7. I have been DJing in Detroit and excited to start networking with people and continuing my passion in Boston. Love a good live house set.
