Boston is a great city but after having lived here for some time I've come to realize most people don't get out and explore beyond their own neighborhoods. Every neighborhood in Boston though has something neat about it though so I started this group as a way for proper Bostonians to meet other proper Bostonians from other neighborhoods who have settled here too. This group is for people who like living in urban environments and call Boston their home. From East Boston to West Roxbury, the North End to the South End, Roxbury to Roslindale, everybody in Boston is welcome. I can't forget about the near by cities either- that's you Cambridge, Somerville, Chelsea, and Brookline.
We do events in all the Boston area neighborhoods but especially focus on Boston city proper. I have a talent for finding local festivals, free concerts, and nice parks to visit. I also lead walks around different neighborhoods I've researched the history on myself. In addition there are plenty of weeknight game, pub trivia, and lectures around town.
Group Rules: I put a lot of work in to the meetup group and I've very serious about creating a community here. The theme of this community is cities, urban issues, and exploring our neighborhoods. To be successful in creating that community the group must have rules. Here are the rules:
#1 - The group is primarily intended to be for people who have settled in the city. Let's face it - Boston is a pretty transient place so people who actually decide to settle in Boston are a pretty small bunch on meetup. The intention of this group is to be a way for those people to meet. Therefore the primary audience is not people just visiting Boston, here temporarily, or from the suburbs. There are many other new to Boston and groups for general audiences but that is not this group.
#2 This group is not for people who want to anonymous. It doesn't make for a friendly meeting up experience without knowing who you're meeting up with. To that end it is required you use your real first name in your profile and a recognizable picture is required to join and stay. I'd also encourage you to fill out the profile with something interesting about yourself.
#3 Three no shows and you're out. I put a lot of work in making events work so I ask members to put some effort in to actually showing up. I take attendance at events and if you show a pattern of not showing up you'll be removed from the group.
#4 Please check the site every 6 months. I very purposefully am trying to keep this group small and active. The only way to keep it small is to remove "dead" profiles. If you don't visit the site every 6 months you'll get an email with some instructions on next steps.
