Welcome to the January Manga Club, and the first meeting of 2014!
It’s a new year, with new Manga to be found! Titles we treasured in our youth will once more go out of print, or more hopefully, be rereleased in cheap omnibus editions!
Oh, and extra title baggage ignored from now on -_-;;;
As a time of new beginnings, this month’s theme will be geared towards the infamous concept of the reboot! You see, some series become so popular that the very characters become household names in dozens of countries. Some become famous, some infamous, but all a key element of manga, and usually anime history. Therefore, when the story eventually ends, the masses often cry out for more.
Enter the reboot!
The same characters, played out in their own universe, are reborn and adapted to new and exciting stories! Either the same villain is rewrapped in a shiny new quest, or the characters are moved completely outside their comfort zones. Either way, you don’t have to knockout a whole mess of character designs and new merchandise can be quickly produced!
Oh, and the fans can get their character fix -_-;;;
So without further ado, here are three titles have been rebooted for your viewing pleasure!
As promised, the voting closed tonight with a close race indeed. However, with a vote of eight to six, The Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse selection has won the day! Hope to see everybody there!
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse, Vol. 1 and 2 by Ming Ming!
Shinji Ikari's parents are gone, and he lives with his legal guardian, Ryoji Kaji, while attending the private NERV Academy. But no one ever told Shinji about its secrets... or that he'd find his fellow students Kaworu, Rei, and Asuka out on the streets late at night - fighting with sword, spear, and whip against an enemy that looks very human, but who Kaworu insists are beings called the Angels...
Now, for your patience, enjoy a trailer of another reboot that sadly won’t be available in time for our meeting. Ah well, better luck next year :)
