Boston to Provincetown?

50cc friendly trip to the Cape? I'm new to the group, but this ride looks fun with great views! Anyone do it already and can give route pointers?

We ride to P-town and take the ferry back to Boston, or make the trip back!

I've got a ride posted in the "suggested" tab on the Boston scoots group that's scheduled for this Sunday if people aren't going to the cape. The shrimp run sounds pretty awesome too.

Oh, the scooter ferry is to Nova Scotia, there is no scooter ferry to PT

I thought someone had secured a campsite, guess I was wrong. I will pass on this and start planning for the shrimp run. Have fun if you go, weather is supposed to be nice.

UPDATE. I don't have a running scooter right now so i won't be there. If this is for us 50cc's too and the weather cooperates, I will.

I would love to scoot to the cape. I have a 125cc, but I would probably stay for the weekend before I scoot back. Anyone have an idea of a non highway rt? Any dates in mind?

    May 15, 2013

    • Chris

Folks, the Clair Saltonstall bike way is not a bike path, it is a marked route along secondary rural roads. You can drive this with a car. I suggested it because it is totally appropriate for scooter speeds and safety.

Check, Check, one two, one two, is this thing on?
So. . . is anybody still up for this trip, because I know I am. Has anyone checked camp site availability? I just changed out my rear signal lights for a better model, tightened my drive chain, adjusted the rear brakes and clutch. This weekend I'll adjust the valves and change the oil. Ready, Set, go!

I wish I did not have to travel in July so that I could go to this event. I am excited to take my first ride with the group.

This is how I understood it....this is how the other riding groups do it, listing the end point in the title and the starting point as the "place". (yes, that starting address is technically in Canton....but it is not to far from Hyde Park up rt138)

Ok, looks like we are all not really feeling it, for May 10th. Let's just postpone it to sometime in July-Aug period, and try to find decision about who wants to camp, when it is warmer outside.

Hi everyone, May 10th is just in 4 days, I need a head count for this Saturday's trip to Cape. Let me know if you are an "in no matter what", or a "definite maybe" We are somewhat limited to the amount of people at the camp site, so please let me know if you are coming on the trip, so I can RSVP with the camp. If you are not coming, feel free not to let me know :-)

Weather forecast is not too gloomy, 52-58F, 30% chance of some rain, wind So 14mph, so it is not so bad, but not a walk in a park either...

Good point......someone might want to add a little more to the title saying something about camping. I think camping is a great idea, because with a 50cc scooter, it will take a LONG time to get down there. This Google MAPS non-highway/non-toll ride takes 3hr and 5 minutes.....non-stop, at top auto speeds....so you can bet it will be about 4-5 hours at least.

Yeah and someone added a maps link here that takes 6.5 hours AND it had a start point right around the corner from me. Whoever did it, say hi cuz we are neighbors and should ride some time. We could meet in Davis Square where we both live evidently.

Can not take a scoot on the ferry, but we can arrange for a support vehicle with a trailer to pick up the stranded scoots, and maybe even carry a spare scoot in case of break down.

I have a HUGE confession to make. I was so looking forward the trip on April 20th. I responded to the meet-up and couldn't make it because I failed to charge my battery the day before. ARGH!!

Thank you everyone - seems like we have a fun year coming up and we're really to ride! Best news, some people are willing to help with group's organizational needs. LET'S DO IT! Set "el loco" trip to Cape Cod in motion. Just reserved last remaining site in Nickerson for May 10th. Anthony, Manny, Nhat, and anyone who wants to help with planning please let me know, it's too much for me. My friend Toby coming behind, towing a boat (fishing time!) Ideally we need someone to tow my bike trailer. Need common food for the night, need to find out what the heck is Site: "OG3 Site Type: GROUP CAMPING Loop: Group Sites 1-8", I am sure there are plenty other safety and organizational issues to ponder. On the bright side: is weather stays on our side, we have a great trip to Cape. spend fun time at the park, do camping stuff together and safely return with fun and exciting memories and pictures to show people!

OOps, The pet reply was for Andrew. Sebastin, they do rent Yurts, but a small tent might be more practical and since we are group camping, anyone who stays in a yurt will be staying away from the group.

      April 7, 2014

  • Chris

So this is how I see it shaping up thus far: May 3rd or 10th we assemble in the Blue HIlls Parking lot. Earlier works best to give us a timeframe for a leisurely ride, but we do need to allow for those arriving from further away so how about 9AM. From there we head down along the rural route ( loosely following the Claire Saltonstall Bike route) towards the Bourne Bridge, then take 6A to Brewster, having lunch along the way perhaps. Camp in Nickerson State Park in a group site and take time to wander about enjoying the parkland. ( If camping is too much for you, there are Yurts available or several other local lodging options) Go out for dinner, or eat in camp. Go out for Breakfast, and a Scenic ride such as Scargo Tower, or visit the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History for a nature hike, Have lunch and head home.
If this seems reasonable, then perhaps the Group Organizers could send out a post to every member to see who is interested in joining in.

I like May 3rd or weekend after, as long it is not too cold to camp out in cape. Know a perfect campground we could stay - got to check availability. Does first two weekends on May work for anyone else?

    March 27, 2014

    • Chris

I was thinking of a campground in Brewster as an option. LIke many Cape Cod Campgrounds it doesn't officially open until May 16th, but perhaps we can contact them and see if they will accommodate us. The nice thing about the place in Brewster is that this time of year it has reduced rates which would make it only $14 per person.

I vote for May 10, but I'm flexible on other dates if needed.

Hi, I'm coming from Oxford, MA. It's going to be quite the hike but I dont mind the venture. I'm riding a "tweaked" 2013 Zuma 50F.

    March 30, 2014

  • Chris

To begin this trip we first need a good meetup spot where the group can assemble. I guess this depends on where everyone starts from. I was thinking that the Blue Hills parking lot near the Ski Slope/Trailside Museum might be good, but people will have to chime in on where they are coming from to make sure this is a reasonable starting point. If you use Google Maps and put in Blue HIlls to Brewster and select BICYCLE mode of transport, you get a good scenic rural route that should be very doable on a 50cc scooter that is a bit over 80 miles to destination. While I know that some might prefer simply taking the faster Route 3, this would not work for anyone on a 50cc vehicle and we do want to be inclusive so that everyone can join the trip, which is why I suggest the rural route. It would be a very pleasant and scenic trip with plenty of options for taking a break if needed.

    March 30, 2014

  • Chris

I was thinking that this might be a good place to Camp. https://shadyknoll.com/ It is in Brewster, has discounted rates for early season camping, and looks decent. It does not officially open until May 16th, but perhaps if once we solidify plans we might be able to get them to accommodate us a bit earlier. Just a thought.

Does anyone want to convoy down there and camp out for the night? Ride back the next morning? Or instead of province what about Marthas vineyard??

    2 · March 27, 2014

    • Chris

Camping is a great idea that we should seriously consider. Taking the ferry to the Vineyard might be a bit problematic, but if we get reservations in advance I guess it would be possible. I was thinking of more Mid Cape such as Brewster, as there is a nice campground there.

I would love to do this! I'm starting a South Shore- based scooter club for[masked]cc riders.

FYI, the Ferry to the Cape/P-Town it is strictly a passenger only Ferry, as Coast Guard regulations do not allow them to carry motor vehicles of any kind. Bicycles get a pass, but no scooters allowed. Me thinks the trip would best be served as a weekender roundtrip. Perhaps a destination Mid Cape might be better than P-Town.

April 26th and/or May 3rd... Any other suggestions?

      March 17, 2014

    • Chris

I was thinking early May myself but I am flexible. May would give enough time to work out a route, figure out the return plan, and get notices out to the group to get a headcount.

      March 17, 2014

  • Chris

Oh, and as far as those concerned that a 50cc might be too underpowered for this trip. . . Remember, Bicycles do this route often, so it should be a breeze on any scooter. I would recommend on not trying to do a round trip in one day on a smaller scoot, as you might get a bit saddle sore.

    March 16, 2014

  • Chris

Perhaps consider negotiating alongside the Claire Saltonstall Bikeway as a viable route. It is along more sedate roads for safety, and runs from Boston to P-Town. AKA Bike Route 1, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claire_Saltonstall_Bikeway
