MBIRA HOUSE CONCERT in Belmont, with Chartwell Dutiro & friends
Friday May[masked]pm sadza (traditional Zimbabwean food) 730pm concert
$10-$20 sliding scale suggested donation

Mbira music from Zimbabwe is one of the most soulful sounds on the African continent. Originally used in spirit possession ceremonies, the iron-pronged mbira (thumb piano) produces music beautiful enough to attract spirits and rhythmically energized enough to keep people dancing through all-night ceremonies. Chartwell Dutiro is one of Zimbabwe's foremost mbira players. He has played the sacred instrument of the Shona people in traditional settings since childhood. He and his brother would often play mbira all night, calling the ancestral spirits for guidance, as has been done in Zimbabwe for many centuries. He toured the world from[masked] with the legendary Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited. Since 1993, Chartwell has lived in the UK, pursuing both traditional and modern Zimbabwean music, and building bridges through his music.

Chartwell will be joined by Nora Balaban (mbira, vocals), Banning Eyre (guitar) and Rima Fand (violin, vocals) Home of Solomon Murungu

Shona culture from the source! Thank you and respect to Mr.Charterll Dutiro. My hope is that you will return and perform at a venue in Boston. The Cd is amazing and I remember you still when you performed with Mr Thomas Mapfumo in the 80's in Boston!

I would LOVE to attend!!! However, every time I attempt to pay $5 by PayPal, the page gets "killed" and does not allow me to pay the annual fee. How can payment be arranged? I would like my RSVP to be "Yes" so I could get address! Thanks!!!
