Let's see the National Theatre's War Horse at the Shalin Liu!

"Since its first performance at the National Theatre in 2007, War Horse has become an international smash hit, capturing the imagination of four million people around the world.

Based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel and adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford, War Horse takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France. Filled with stirring music and songs, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-size puppets by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage."

As usual, let's plan on meeting up on the window seat by the elevators on the left side of the lobby.  If there's an intermission, we can all gather by the large picture windows on the top floor and discuss the play.

I really loved the theater and the play/movie was spectacular. Thanks, again, Nadine for organizing another winner. It was really good to meet everyone, as well.

Nice to meet you too Linda; hope we can share more venues together ... ;o)

Awesome! I love live theater, and this was as close as one could get without paying exorbitant prices (and going to England)! I felt as if I was right there and part of the audience. The venue is simply beautiful! The company - Nadine, Linda, and Joy (sorry Betsy, I don't think I met you) - were welcoming. Lastly, the play "War Horse" was as good (if not better) than the movie! ;o)

Hey everyone - I'm sorry I had to leave and miss the teleplay after they corrected the technical difficulties. Unfortunately I had been up since 3AM and just didn't think I'd be able to be awake through it all given the delay and that they rewound it to the beginning.

I enjoyed meeting everyone and hope you all had a great time!

The teleplay of War Horse was wonderful. The theater had a hiccup at the start of the showing, but when I enjoyed the show.

My apologies. Leaf and bean is closed. I'm in Gloucester where I found a Shaw's. I'll see you at the theater.

Bean and Leaf iss closed so I and Pat are at Hula Moon. It is the only place nearby that is open. It is on Mt Pleasant about 5 blocks from the theater.

I just heard back from the theater. The show is on and there's no parking ban. See you soon.

  • Liz

Having never been to Shalin Liu, I understand it is right on Bearskin Neck, so just where does one park??? What time is it best to get there to get a good parking spot? ;o)

    February 27, 2014

    • Nadine

Parking is on the street. The theater is down the street from Bearskin Neck. The shops are closed this time of year so there will be parking available. I'm going to park right at the theater door-as close as possible.

I need to opt out of this event. I am very sorry. I was really looking forward to it. My doctors have lined up
three procedures for me on Thursday in Boston. I will be much too tired. See you next time!

    • Nadine

As always, Barbara, health comes first. Good luck with everything on Thursday.

I am in Orchestra D1. This will be my first time at one of this group's meetups. I am looking forward to meeting folks at dinner and the show!

It looks like a lot of us are going to be in row E. If you can't make it to the Bean and Leaf, we'll see you at our seats. And obviously, they aren't sold out if the fifth row is so readily available.

Do you know how much tickets are and how they can be purchased?

    February 5, 2014

    • Nadine

Go to th he website www.rockportmusic.org and follow the links. I'm not purchasing a ticket until a week before because of weather like today. Once I do I'll let people know my seat number. You can of course purchase your ticket now of course.

Got my ticket. E-11 Orchestra. Thanks.

Hello, everyone, it's time to plan the next event. I've checked the long range forecast and next Thursday is supposed to be storm free. I purchased ticket E-12 in the orchestra (www.rockportmusic.org). The show starts at 7. For those who can make it, let's grab a quick bite at the Bean & Leaf Cafe on Bearskin Neck (http://beanandleafcafe.net/) at 5:30. The meters time out at 6pm, so do bring a some quarters for that last half hour. We should be able to easily park near the theater this time of year. See you then!

Hi All - I just joined the group and am looking forward to meeting people. I saw the movie warhorse, but would like to see the play. I may also wait to purchase a ticket just to make sure I am free on that day.

    February 5, 2014

  • Nadine

I've found that the teleplays are not sold out, so I will be purchasing my ticket closer to the date. Weather is tricky this time of year. If it's not general admission, I will let everyone know my seat number at that time.

    • Nadine

Hi, Pat, and welcome. Because it's February, I'm not purchasing my ticket until one week ahead of time (probably about 2/27). Once I do so I'll post where I'm sitting. Each person is responsible for purchasing his/her own ticket, depending on their seating preference and budget. You can call the venue or order online. I've posted a link above to their web site.

Sorry to pull out. I am doing voluntary work every Thursday night now and can't cancel that easily. Disappointed I was looking forward to this! Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks, Alison. We'll see you at another event. Take care.
