The Buzz about Gradle

Android's gone Gradle! Gradle combines the power and flexibility of Ant with the dependency management and conventions of Maven into a more effective way to build. [Speaker: Kevin Gorham]

All the while, Gradle keeps the full power of Groovy and Java at your fingertips. Why have leading projects such as Spring, Hibernate, and now Android made the switch? This presentation will introduce Gradle, highlighting its key features and capabilities from an Android and Java perspective. Come see what the buzz is all about.

Our speaker is Kevin Gorham. For the past year, Kevin has worked as a Software Architect at SportsLabs, designing and implementing the server-side platforms that support their digital sports technologies. Recently, he switched to the mobile team and has helped lead the full transition over to Gradle on all Android projects.

Kevin holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech and has over 12 years of development experience in the financial, defense, and sports industries. Throughout his career he has gravitated toward automation and build systems, working extensively with everything from Bash scripts, Make, and Ant, to Maven, Ivy, and Gradle. The latter impressed him so much that he has become an unofficial Gradle Evangelist.

Aircell is supplying this month's meeting space, food, and drink.

Aircell is a telecom service and equipment provider for the business-aviation industry. Aircell is a phone manufacturer based here, not in Texas or Taiwan. You won't, however, see the phones in the phone stores: you'll see them on private jets. We're recruiting Android platform developers.

(Yes, the address is Broomfield, but it's in the Interlocken Park: South Boulder is as close to Aircell as it is to North Boulder.)

From Pearson we have

• an eBook

From Aircell, we have

• a Samsung Chromebook

• a pair of Gogo passes (free Internet access on any airline that offers Gogo internet services -- Aircell is a gogo company)

If you or your company has marketing schwag we could give away at a meeting, let us know!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
