Community Board Game Day at the Integral Center

Community Board Game Day at Integral Center

Hosted by Bansi and Friends

Saturday, March 9, Noon - Midnight

Integral Center, 2805 Broadway, Chapel Room

We have a whole day of board gaming in a sweet space, the Chapel Room at the Integral Center in Boulder! Also invited are the folks in the community of the Integral Center, and some other game groups. Invite your friends, we have lots of space!

In addition to all the die-hards, I expect a number of folks brand new to the world of designer board games. I will appreciate, as we are accustomed, to be friendly and inviting to the newbies, and to teach them the games, etc....

Potluck is again encouraged, so we have uninterrupted fun all day long. We’ll be going from Noon to Midnight; you can join the whole event, or just drop by for an hour or two whenever you like.

I’d like a few helping hands at around 11:30am to help set up tables and chairs. Contact me directly if you’re up for that. Same goes for late night tare down.

This is a FREE event for all. We want to have fun being in community.  (donations will be graciously accepted)

See you there!!

Trying to recall off the top of my head all the games: Survive!, Ghost Stories, Roborally, Kingsburg x 2, Kill Dr. Lucky, Carcassonne x 2, Risk Legacy x 2, Tichu x several (and one was a 6-player game), Wits and Wagers, Artemis Bridge x several, Dominion x infinity, Martian Dice, Witch's Brew, Eclipse, Qwirkle Cubes, Tammany Hall, Quelf, Battlestar Galactica x manymany hours, Alien Frontiers. Probably missing a couple of titles...

That's some pretty good tracking.... I don't think I'd have remembered that many! There was Crokinole, of course...

      March 11, 2013

    • Nori

Ah yes - I knew there was another game going on concurrent with Survive! when we first arrived, but I couldna remember which. And maybe you played King of Tokyo after we left.

  • Vickie

I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I'm still a So Cal girl... even though the storm let up, I was afraid it would come back, and I'd be driving in it! Yep... I'm a chicken.

Thanks everyone for making this a wonderful event. The biggest BBGG event yet at 60+ folks through the day! And a special thanks to those to who brought yummy food, helped set up and break down and clean up, and who contributed in any other way. It's we who make our group awesome. :-)

And to you Bansi for getting it all started! It was quite the marathon we all enjoyed.

    • Adam S.

Agreed! Thanks for putting this together, and thanks to everyone who made it!

Roads are great in boulder as of noon. Too warm for the snow to stick to the streets in case anyone is wondering

    March 9, 2013

    • Bansi

Yes, roads are clear, gaming is on!

      March 9, 2013

  • Marcia

Moving this yes to a maybe. We'll see.

100th comment - yeeee! No takers on the microwave? Because then I'll leave the milk, hot chocolate, and Bailey's at the homestead.

    March 9, 2013

    • Victor R.

Thought you were kidding about that.

      March 9, 2013

    • Nori

Yeppers - still some leftovers from before. You'll have to supply your own whole or 2% milk if that's your preference, though!

So, Odd Question: Is there anything for children to do at this community center? I was intending to bring a friend but her ex cancelled on her last minute.
I'm assuming 'No' But I had to at least ask.

What are the ages of the kids?

      March 8, 2013

Just one, I 'think' he's 3 or 4, she's just a friend from school I don't know many details about her life...

This sounds fun, I'll try to make it in the afternoon if the weather isn't too bad.

Am wondering what food & drinks people are planning on bringing to share. I don't have a warming dish or a big slow cooker so won't bring a hot dish. However, for anyone thinking of bring a hot dish, are there plugs for these?
    A microwave?
    A kitchen we can use?
If there's a kitchen, others could make something that could be heated up in there.

I don't drink alcoholic things in the daytime. I wish I owned a big coffee maker, but alas, no; so, I will bring teas and honey, an instant hot water pot, instant coffee and condiments for coffee. I'm also planning on bringing some foods/snacks that are cold but don't need refrigeration. I also have some paper bowls, cups for hot and cold drinks, some small paper plates (not many though), tons of napkins and a lot of plastic eating utensils too. I'd bring some that are compostable, but I really need to get rid of these before I any buy more.

    March 7, 2013

    • cody

      I will make deviled eggs!

      March 8, 2013

    • Forrest

Cupcakes and garlic knots are my plan but if something more lunch/dinnery may be on the table too.

      March 8, 2013

  • Bansi

Okay, we're revving up! We're at 50+ 'yes' and another 15 'maybe' (with Facebook event page included) and probably some more drop ins and additions besides. Exciting. I think a few extra tables would be great to have, so those of us with those nice folding tables - the long 6 foot ones are best, and card tables would also be good -please bring them with you if you are able. (Victor, Ryan, ??) There are plenty of chairs on site. And, come at 11:30 for anyone who feels like helping set up! See the rest of ya whenever you get there. Game on! :-)

    March 8, 2013

    • Victor R.

I'll bring a table. I'll try to get there early to help set up but not sure if I can just yet.

      March 8, 2013

    • Bansi

I now have plenty of plates, cups and plasticware.

      March 8, 2013

  • Nori

And re: Jill's query about donations...though I dunno the exact details of the rental situation, the place looks pretty swank, and even if the fee was markedly reduced, it'd still be nice for folks to chip in even just a little to defray costs, either for the event space itself or towards upkeep of the BBGG meetup. Considering, too, that all this involved a good chink of Bansi's time and effort, it's worth donating a few dineros, yes?

Question: I'm more comfortable with PayPal then with Cash, Would I be able to make a contribution through the website here and have it be my contribution towards this event?

      March 8, 2013

    • Bansi

Mm, to keep clean books, for money to be applied to this event you can PayPal to me directly: [masked]. I can also take credit cards on site! (thanks to Square)

I had intended to come, but I don;t think it wise to drive from Loveland in the expected foot of snow tomorrow :(

I'll bring Kill Dr. Lucky and Logo games. Logo can be played as individuals (3 or more) or in teams to make it faster. I think the last time we played it we had about 10 people playing as individuals, and it took about 2 hours. It's a game of recall of general knowledge that doesn't require strategy. It can be tough for the younger people though, hence why I think team play is better in mixed aged groups.

Kill Dr. Lucky is a murder planning game. It plays 3 - 7 people. It requires quite a bit of strategy and luck, and others can foil your every attempt. The more people, the longer it takes of course. With 3 people it took around 1.5 hours, but it was the first time I'd played it.

Hmmm A thought occurs to me:

Anyone want to set up an Artemis bridge simulator? Now that it is available on the iPad and iPhone, just a set of 5 devices would make a full Star Trek Bridge available. It could be fun if we get enough people. I can bring an iPad and iPhone.

It also occurs to me we may not have access to a network. Can someone bring a wireless router?

      March 7, 2013

    • Ian K.

It's a social game, much like a board game, so in my mind it counts.

I'll bring an old D-Link router, but I'm not sure how well it's working, so if somebody has something better, please bring it.

    What's the parking situation there?
Will donations for this event go to help pay for the venue rental?
What about trash, trash bags, and recycling containers?

I won't be able to stay late into the night, but will gladly help with set up (I'll come at 11:30am after I dig my car out and shovel my walkway).

Considering the heavy snow event predicted, I'm going to pack up my car today and Friday with items that don't need refrigeration. I'm really hoping it won't be too heavy a snow day as I drive a little sedan and my neighborhood doesn't get plowed! However, I will dig out and shovel early so I can get to the venue in time to help set up.

There is parking on south side of building, and behing the building in the alley. If all those are full, continue through the alley, left at street, then left again and head back towards Balsam. There is almost always parking there just before Balsam. It's a pretty short walk to the Center from there. Don't park in the Ideal parking lot, and I'd stay away from the hospital as well.

Bansi, Please keep us posted if you need more tables. I've got one I can bring, but no chairs. Not sure what time I'm arriving, though. (Unless friendly Border Collies are welcome, then I can be there all day! ; )

Yeah, what is the situation with tables and chairs? I have a couple of folding chairs but no tables available. What's the center providing in terms of these?

      March 7, 2013

    • Bansi

we've plenty of chairs. An extra table or two might come in handy.

      March 7, 2013

  • Bansi

I'm thinking to set up tables for Pitch Car and Crokinole to be set up the whole event. Nice easy quick dexterity games folks can play who are waiting for another game or are new to games....

Excellent community event! Nothing like good, clean fun to get people together. Will it be an alcohol-free event? Maybe we can throw in a little exercise so our rears don't grow from too much sitting?
