Benefit for Kelly Phipps

Calling all gamers!

Many of you know Kelly Phipps.  He has worked for over 5 years to build community among gamers in the Boulder/Denver area. A frequent meet-up host for boardgames of all kinds, Kelly's warm personality has brought hundreds of people to join him at the gaming table. Kelly teaches games with the same contagious passion he brings to his philosophy workshops and work as a writer, a filmmaker, a game designer, and world-renown professional astrologist.

In early October 2013, Kelly, age 42, suffered through emergency neurosurgery and now faces a difficult battle with brain cancer. We invoke gamer love by rallying around Kelly in his time of need to provide support for him and his son, age 17, through this struggle.

Please join us on Saturday, 22 February 2014 (2-8 PM) at Karliquin's Game Knight (2085 30th St, Boulder, CO 80301).

Show support for a gamer in need! Share your own survivor stories! Come support Kelly, a Friend of the Boulder/Denver Gamer Community!

You may also drop off a donation at Karliquin's Game Knight or donate directly to the Arian Brazenwood Scholarship Fund, 100% of which goes directly to Kelly's son and family.  Arian is an astoundingly bright young man with a huge heart who wants very much to attend Montana State University in the fall, and any funds we raise will help him to be able to do this.

Checks can be mailed here:

My sincerest thanks to all Kelly's friends who made the event such a success! Karl and his friendly staff opened the store to us, donated games to the raffle, and laid down 20% of today's sales. Scott R and Kevin C added games to the raffle. We also had some amazing help from Tammy P. with our grand prize and some great pizza! Thank you all so much for coming and being there to help make Kelly's wish for Arian come true.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. I am totally swamped with work. I will be sure to donate, however.

Some of you have asked how you can help if you are unable to attend the event. I'll attempt to provide some suggestions as a starting point:

    1. If you want something from the auction, place a bid and indicate that you'll need shipping. We respectfully ask you to cover the shipping for the item if you win the bid.

    2. If you wish to donate cash to the Arian Brazenwood Scholarship Fund in the name of this event, with John & Mary Phipps as custodians, you can do so by sending a check or wiring funds to this bank account:

    Bank of the West
    Attention: Arian Brazenwood Scholarship
    9285 S. Broadway Highlands Ranch, CO 80129

    Wiring info:
    routing #: 121100782
    acct #: 032733790
    city, state: highlands ranch, co

    3. If you wish to donate cash to Help Arian Graduate, please use the You Caring page in the name of this event, with Brenda Lack as custodian. You can do so here:

    4. Anything else you want to deliver to the event!

Less than two weeks to go before the gaming fundraiser to support Kelly and his family! I wanted to update everyone on the auction and the Warhorn link.

For the auction, anyone can donate items here or place bids:

There's also a Warhorn event here, which you can use to sign up for existing game sessions or offer to GM something in advance:

I have sketched out a Dominion Tournament, but feel free to contact me if you want me to add another game to the list.

You can find more details at the original FB event as well:

Jason, the facebook link isn't working for me. It just redirects to my own event list. Thanks for posting more details. I'd been wondering what the format of this was going to be.

Thanks for the feedback, Ian. The FB event doesn't have much more in the way of details. I think Victor's original post to the Meet-up Event is sufficient. That said, I'll work on duplicating the existing event to a new, public one and share the link so you can see it. You're not the first one to encounter security issues with the FB event, probably because it was an event nested under a page that has since been locked down.
