July - Boulder Cello Project Play-in

  • Jul 25, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We're doing a free raffle to win 2 pairs of tickets to Psyche's album release show on August 9th at The Bluebird Theater during this play-in! :)

Come join us in a relaxed environment to play some cello ensemble music. We'll have a good mixture of beginners to advanced cellists.

6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Food, Drinks & Social. For members who would like to eat some snacks and meet other members, or warm up before playing. This is not required. Members can simply show up at the scheduled play-in time.

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Cello Choir. Time is flexible and you may stay longer or leave earlier depending on your schedule. We will take a break midway through the play-in, and members are free to leave during break time if you have other commitments and cannot stay for the entire 2 hour play-in.

This play-in is for all levels, whether advanced or playing in a group for the first time, and will be led by an experienced cello teacher. We will work on playing and practicing together, dynamics and speed, and having fun!

Moderator: Susan Crisfield (yaaay Susan!!!!)

To prepare for this meeting:

1. Sheet music and audio has been posted on the main website below. Please follow the directions below. If you have any issues accessing the music, please shoot us an email.

2. If you have not attended one of our play-ins before, please also read http://www.bouldercelloproject.com/play-in.html for more information on what to expect at a play-in for yourself and others.

3. Please tune your A to 441. We will also tune before the play-in. If you're not sure about tuning, don't worry about it. We'll be happy to help when you arrive.

4. Please bring your music stand. Don't forget to bring a music stand if you have one (we have extras available as well) and please label your stand. We will be playing 'musical chairs' so players sit next to cellists playing their part.

We look forward to playing with everyone!

Loved it! I liked the music choices, the conductor was terrific (thank you, Susan), participants were serious about the music while being light and friendly, and the pacing was excellent.

I had a great time. I thought maybe the rep was a little less exciting than the other times I've been, not sure why, though. Susan was great as a moderator, tons of useful tips.

Bummer you had to leave early - you missed the Game of Thrones sight reading! It was by the same composer who did the Medallion piece too - Erinn Renyer of E&E Cello Music.

Yeah, I think we didn't have a big "gotcha" piece like we often do. Medallion was really energetic, though, and I liked it.

It was a wonderful first experience for me! Though I don't play the cello, secretly it's one of my favorite instruments (no longer a secret!). Susan was an exceptional moderator (and teacher). Thanks for a great evening!
