Tell us a little about yourself.

Fun and Geeky. Adventurous. Silly, irreverent. I wrote a disclaimer on my Test Plan that read like a movie script disclaimer (no bugs have been harmed in this project, they have been reworded as features.. scheduled events have no relation to actual events.. all team memberships are subject to re-orgs). I also write IT Poetry, poetry about computers. Startup Weekend folk in the room in 2009 suggested I start a blog, so I did. Wrote an IT Poem about TechStars, folded an Origami TechStar and gave it to the organizer.

What programming languages do you know?

Recent testing familiarity with PHP, Scala with LIFT framework, Java, Javascript, Visual Studio V. Education included Fortran, Basic, Motorola 68000, C. Ancient Testing on Smalltalk 80, VAX/VMS mainframes, etc.

Why are you interested in learning Rails?

Have needed these skills on several occasions. In 2011 a nonprofit I assisted used Rails. In 2010 as an Agile Scrum Master I worked with Devs using Rails. In 2008/2009 Watir had a local organization of volunteers that died off from lack of local skilled folk in rails. Last month I visited the SF Office of Pivotal Labs and they use rails. Ironically, I see they are having a workshop in two days (Dec 14)! Wish I knew about that when I was standing in their office on Nov 2, 2012! Funny.

Introduction

Greetings! I am thrilled to discover this group through conversation at last night's Ft Collins NewTech. I have a programming background, and am eager to use it. Been in QA for the past 15 years. A nonprofit I assisted last year needed rails skills.
