Backup Strategies with Jeff Lornezen (Please let me know your preference)

Jeff Lorenzen is President and CEO of Computer Superheroes, founded in 2001.  Jeff has been taking apart things and putting them back together since he was old enough to hold a screw driver.  He has been working with computers while still in high school in the early 80’s.  When Jeff entered the workforce, he was the only one in the office that new anything about computers and was quickly put to task developing computer systems that replaced the pen and paper/typewriter approach to doing business.  As Jeff pursued a career in Audio Engineering in Los Angeles, he was at the forefront of the conversion from analog audio recording to digital, helping musicians, television and movie studios convert to digital audio processing and editing.  Jeff moved to Colorado with his family in 1999, where he became unimpressed by the lack of customer service in the IT service industry in Colorado.  After being called a “superhero” by many of his customers, Jeff trademarked the name for his company.  Computer Superheroes has more than 600 clients across the nation, largely acquired by word-of-mouth.

Backup Strategies:
One day, you will be faced with data loss.  It isn’t a matter of “if,” it’s a matter of “when.”  Even if you never accidentally over-write or delete a file, hard drives can only spin at 7200 RPM for so long.  Backup is a critical part of any computer implementation plan, no matter what you do with a computer.  If you’re keeping original material on a computer, you need to have a copy of it somewhere.  With the implementation of hundreds of cloud- or Internet-based backup services, there is confusion in the marketplace about what these services can provide and if they are safe and reputable.  Come learn from an expert on data protection to find out how you can protect your data from simple and catastrophic loss.

I'm going to have to bail from tomorrows meetup. Fortunately, not literally. We are in the process of moving into temporary housing though, due to the flood, so I have a pile of stuff I need to do. See you guys next time!

Sorry about your home... Look forward to seeing you next time.

A colleague from New Orleans, who recently moved to Lyons also has been dealing with relocating to temp. housing. I went through 8 moves (post-"Katrina"), my 1st 2 years in Boulder. At least, I think the efforts to help flood victims are well organized, and I hope none in this event will need to move more than once or twice, and can return to their homes.

This was awesome! Very informative and useful. I have a lot of things to look into! Still definitely a bit confused but at least great to know some of the ways forward. Thanks a ton!

I hope I can find a way there. Taxi not affordable, at this time. Have to take RTD to Denver (DAM exhibits end on 22nd).I've been interested in this since at least late 90s. Jeff and I have some similarities (taking things apart).

I come from Loveland, so if you are on the way, let me know and I can pick you up. RTD to Denver??? You do know that this is in Boulder don't you??

Sorry, Judy. Preoccupied, and did not check until tonight. I hope all are OK. I live in south Boulder, near the Michael's here. My "RTD" statement was in reference to HAVING to take buses to DAM - and probably being really exhausted from that. (It can take DAYS to recover). Anyway, I did not go see SPUN, alas.

Just checked with Jeff and Amadeus to make sure we are on for tomorrow night. Because we had interest in both topics I let Jeff choose. He felt because of the flood backup strategies was the most topical. We can ask him back later in the year to cover email.

Has the topic been decided? Back ups or email?

    September 23, 2013

  • Judy H.

Either topic is good for me because I missed the one on backups. Looking forward to whatever I can learn!

I am more interested in the email. I attended the meeting on backups before, but my email is a mess. I have about a dozen or so addresses dictated by accounts (Google is the worst!), employment, school, and personal. I'd love to hear Jeff's perspective on this.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
