Read: Everything is Illuminated and Hike South Boulder Creek West Trail

  • February 22, 2014 · 9:00 AM

So, I'm on a new kick to make a dent in the "1000 books to read before you die" list, which led me to this book by Jonathan Safran Foer:

With only a yellowing photograph in hand, a young man - also named Jonathan Safran Foer - sets out to find the woman who may or may not have saved his grandfather from the Nazis. Accompanied by an old man haunted by memories of the war; an amorous dog named Sammy Davis, Junior, Junior; and the unforgettable Alex, a young Ukrainian translator who speaks in a sublimely butchered English, Jonathan is led on a quixotic journey over a devastated landscape and into an unexpected past.

As promised, your hike update:

Looks like the weather will be ok, so let's plan on hiking the South Boulder Creek West trail.  Part of a larger trail system, so there isn't a definite distance, but let's plan on 3-4 miles.  If the weather doesn't cooperate we will sit at the coffee shop to discuss the book.

    Hi Everyone,
Not sure I will make it, I'm waiting for a contractor who is late surprise surprise. If I can get away, I'll meet you at the trailhead, otherwise have a great time and I'll see you next month. Sorry for the late notice.

Sorry, I am not going to be able to get it together to make this this morning, sounds like fun and will attend the next one.

Hi everyone. So this is gonna be my first event, I was just wondering what the structure for the event is?

We meet at the coffee shop and carpool to the trailhead. We discuss the book while hiking, pretty informal.

Thanks for the details Kristin. I won't be able to come today, but this sounds a fun event. Will definitely try to come for future events.

I had some friends drop by and they are staying overnight. Don't think I will make it by 9 tomorrow morning so I changed my RSVP. Have a great hike and discussion.

Sorry, I can't make it tomorrow. I loved the book and was looking forward to talking about it, but the outpatient surgery I had on Wednesday has kicked my butt and I think starting on next month's book is a better plan.

II just noticed I may not be able to make this hike on Saturday. Are they always on Saturdays? Or on some on other days? Saturdays are sometimes hard to have free. Looking forward though for the first hike I go to.
Are we allowed to bring a friendly dog on a leash with us- once in a while? Just wondering, don't have too.

Hi Carol - the hikes are nearly always on Saturdays. Dogs are welcome if the trail rules permit dogs.

Just added an update on the hike: weather permitting we will hike South Boulder Creek West Trail. As always, we will meet at the coffee shop and carpool to the trailhead. Also of note: the coffee shop name changed from Vic's to Que's, but is the same location at Table Mesa and Moorehead.

Not able to make it Saturday. I enjoyed the book. It's also worth checking out the DVD movie that is at the Boulder Library. On to the next book.

that's great to hear there is going to be a hike expedition planned the Saturday just before my 1st day of grad school starts. I wish I could attend the subsequent weekends down the calendar year... Hopefully we'll have time to break away from the rigorous demands. Safran Boer books sounds intriguing.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
