2nd Friday is the return of the Brad Upton Quartet -
Last month Brad's band was jaw dropping good. Each of their shows at Sole reveals additional layers of their exceptional musical depth. After over two years of hearing these guys monthly, I finally got how much the band improvises as an ensemble. They are so tight, that I assumed it was very arranged in advance. But no. They are constantly exploring entirely new musical vistas-collaboratively and spontaneously. One of my favorite other bands that could pull this off effortlessly night after night was the Grateful Dead (I digress). They play 7:30 to 10:30- no cover (unbelievable)
