Boulder Jazz Fans: Posting gigs (technical problem - ???) and how to manage your emails

Hi, Boulder Jazz Fans.

This email is about two things:  1) Wondering if anyone is having trouble, like I am, posting your gigs; and 2) reminder on how to manage your emails from Boulder Jazz Fans in case you'd like to receive less (or no!) emails.

1)   Trouble with Meetup site posting gigs:   A musician emailed me that she's not able to post her gigs on BJF.  When she hovers her mouse over the calendar date, it doesn't show the icons that she would ordinarily click on to post the gig.  I've emailed Meetup.com technical support, but haven't heard back, which is making me cranky, since I pay for this site, and I expect better service.  And I don't want our members frustrated!   I'm continuing to work on this.  Let me know if you're having trouble posting your gigs, by emailing me directly at [address removed] .   NOTE that only musicians are enabled (by me) to post their gigs.  Jazz lovers and fans can access the calendar and make suggestions and send group emails, but only jazzers can post their own gigs.

2) How to manage your daily emails from BJF, in case you're getting too many, or whatever:

The purpose of this group is to promote playing and listening to jazz in the Boulder area.  Here you can find out what's going on jazz-wise, meet other jazz musicians to play with, and schedule gigs on the calendar.  Jazz music lovers who aren't musicians can post ideas for meeting up with others, to listen to jazz in the area.

Managing your emails:  Some of you love getting daily notices of jazz events meetups.  Others don't.  Members may choose to receive these regular emails about scheduled meetups, or they can manage the amount and type of emails they receive.

To manage your emails, go to the "Members" tab in the blue bar on the top.

Click on "My profile" (which is your profile!).

Then click on "Edit Communication Settings" and choose what kinds of emails -- a lot, a little, or none -- that you want to receive.  Voila!

Calendar of events:  To view upcoming events, go to the "Calendar" tab on the home page.  Some of the jazz events are set by the musicians as "meetups" (and members will receive email reminders if they choose), while other events are posted on the calender but are not announced through reminder emails.  The calendar is the place to find upcoming events.

Posting gigs:   Musicians are able to list upcoming jazz events and gigs, suggest them on the "members" page, or add them to the Calendar.   To add to the calendar:  Go to the "Calendar" tab on the home page.   When you put your cursor over a specific day (i.e. the day of the gig you want to post), two little icons will pop up.  The little yellow icon on the right, inside any specific day on the calendar, brings up a page where musicians can post their gig.  The little icon on the left brings up a screen where musicians can schedule a "Meetup," which means that reminder emails will be sent to members.    Musicians may also post pictures of their group under the "Photos" tab on the top blue bar.   1/27/11 NOTE:   I'm recently having a problem with this feature, and have contacted Meetup.com by email (sigh) for resolution.  Let me know if you're a musician and you haven't been able to post your gigs.  I haven't been able to post any, myself, and at least one other musician is also having a problem.

Pics:   If you have pics from your gigs you wish to post, by all means, do so!

If you have any questions or concerns about how to better use this site, please contact me directly at [address removed] and I will get back to you personally.

Thanks for being here, and enjoy jazzin' !
