Discuss Bulgakov's Heart of a Dog

So you guys voted and the majority chose 4pm on Sundays! If any of you want to come and that time just will not work for you, then please shoot me a message and we will figure it out.

Also, for those of you who ordered the copy that I sent a link to, you may already notice that it is in play form. I don't know why that wasn't explicitly mentioned in the description, but if this bothers you like it bothers me, I found a free online version of the story here: Bulgakov's Heart of a Dog, and a downloadable PDF version here: PDF Heart of a Dog

Whichever way you read it, I'm excited to talk about it!

See you soon,

-Cheryl

Can I ask, of everyone who read Heart of a Dog -- Have any of you read Yuri Olesha's Envy? I am going to be teaching a free course on Russian literature at the Denver Public Library in March and April, and I am having a hard time choosing between Heart of a Dog and Envy. There isn't enough time in the course to teach both. They are both approximately the same length, and have some similar themes. Which would you recommend? Did people like Heart of a Dog? So sorry I missed the discussion.

Here's the class if anyone is interested:

I haven't, but we had a great time with Heart of a Dog--there is A LOT to talk about in the few pages. I think it would be very fun to teach.
Also, if you are planning on joining our next discussion, you should vote for your book of choice under the "Discussions" tab by the end of today! We'd love to have you :)

Wish I knew about this group three days ago! Has anyone seen the movie by Bortko? It is very well-done.

It was wonderful to meet everyone today. The collective historical knowledge and perspectives shared made reading Bulgakov's work all the richer for me!

I tend to work until about 3:30 on Sundays, but will try to make it-- and if not this time, hopefully the next.
