It is time again for this high altitude adventure. Check out the picts from last time to get a sense of scenery and adventure. The question is when. The weather has to be pretty close to perfect for this one. Sept 2 (Sunday) may work.
This is an amazing ride with breathtaking views of the Indian Peeks wilderness and the Continental Divide. Starts at over 9,000 feet, at the Sourdough South trail head, follows up parts of Sourdough A, connects over to the Niwot Ridge trail and then climbs up along several CU research posts all the way to a mind boggling 12,500 feet (way above tree line). Goes without saying: this is not a beginner ride. There is little air up there. If you have only been riding/hiking at Boulder altitude this could be an issue. The seasonal window of opportunity is now. The snow free season is very short up there. We have to wait for a "perfect" day with no or little chance of afternoon storms. The ideal time would be to start at about 9am. Post a comment if you are considering and have time constraints/suggestions. Place: Sourdough Trail Head, Peek to Peek (highway 72), ~4 miles south of where Left Hand canyon meets Peek to Peek. There is a sign "University of Colorado Research Station" on your right when you drive south.
