Wildflower hike on the Big Bluestem trail!

This hidden gem is simply the best wildflower hike in Boulder County in the early spring!  We will hike a 4 mile loop on easy terrain to explore the incredible spring wildflowers that abound here! We'll pass through several micro-ecosystems that each hold their own beauty and their own selection of wildflowers!  We may find: wild irises, golden banner, pasqueflower, mouse-eared chickweed, shootingstars, mariposa lilies, and much more!  Another exciting thing about hiking in this area in the spring- there are lots of frogs in the wetlands!!!! Join us!

Let's go see what new flowers blooming!

There is no charge for this meetup, but I would appreciate a donation of $10-20 per person. That allows me to continue offering these outings!  Thanks!

PS. please bring a headlamp in case we get back a bit after dark! And, bring warm layers too!

Had fun seeing you all again and meeting new people. The hike was easy enough to stop and smell the flowers...literally.

Are Well Behaved Dogs Welcome ???

(I have 2 dogs myself and I love them dearly, so it's not that I don't love them, just that they aren't appropriate for these hikes)

Lauren, the weather forecast is calling for potentially severe thunderstorms until 9 this evening. Is our walk still happening? If it needs to be canceled, when will you give out the notice?

    May 20

    • Lauren K.

The forecast is for a 30% chance of thunderstorms. I will monitor it closely- there are lots of flowers within a short distance of the trailhead so if I need to shorten the hike that is easy to do

Hi Lauren, I cannot make the wildflower hike today. I have a recurring knee issue. Hope to see you all on another hike soon. Thanks.

Do you get back any earlier than 9pm? I would have to leave around 8:15 to get to work.

    May 18

    • Lauren K.

Yes, my planned return is 8:30 and you can always hike a bit faster at the end to get back in time for work :)

Hi Lauren, I'm not positive that the section you are describing will be open after May 1st due to grassland ground nesting birds. I saw a sign up on the trails last week...but maybe you already know which areas are closed? https://bouldercolorado.gov/osmp/grassland-ground-nesting-bird-closures

    • Lauren K.

The trails are open. The off trail areas are closed and dogs have to be leashed. The website says "These closures do not affect designated trails in the area which remain open throughout the closure period." :) thanks for checking!
