Tuesday Day Hike or Snowshoe - Buchanan Pass Trail

Every other week, day hike or snowshoe depending on conditions and location. Hikes will be approximately 7-9 miles, 30-90 minute drive from Boulder. Route to be announced 5 days before the hike or sooner.

----------------------------------------------------------

Let's meet at the Stone Cup, http://www.thestonecup.com/, in Lyons and carpool from there. I am coming from Niwot and could carpool from there as well. And work together to come up with other carpools.

We will hike/snowshoe the Buchanan Pass Trail. We will hike at least to Timberline Falls, if we are up for it we will go about a mile further where we should hit an open meadow with views of the Indian Peaks. Total distance should be about 7-9 miles out and back. The elevation change will be about 1,000 feet and the hike is overall moderate. Below is a link describing this hike and please do your own research as I have not hiked this before.

Please note this description starts from the summer trailhead, we will likely be starting from the road and going only to the falls or perhaps the start of the flats - http://www.protrails.com/trail/112/indian-peaks-wilderness-area-james-peak-wilderness-area-buchanan-pass-trail

Bring energy foods, water, lunch, sunscreen, snowgear, warm gear, dress in layers, be prepared for changes in weather, hiking poles, traction devices, snowshoes and a headlamp or flashlight, etc. Be self-sufficient, you are hiking at your own risk.

Hi Hikers - Just wondering if we should move this up an hour? Meet at 8:45 instead of 9:45?

    • Lisa

      I can do either time.

      February 26

  • Emilie G.

    I prefer 9:45.

What time do you estimate we will be back to the Stone Cup?

    February 25

    • Bonnie

Hi Janine - Not really sure since I have not hiked this, maybe 3 or 4 back at the Stone Cup. I tried to line it up so anyone who was coming from south of Boulder would not have to deal with the height of rush hour in either direction. Hopefully it works out that way.

Bonnie did you guys do Lookout yet?

    February 25

    • Gretchen

I'm not sure if I am in shape to do it but I sure would give it a try. It's a cool hike in the summer, one of my favorites.

Decided to do Timberline Falls. We should do this as a double bagger with Horsetooth in the spring/summer.
