Eldorado Canyon Trail

Hi everyone -- I have houseguests in town and a big grant review coming up at the end of Jan, so I'm not posting hikes until afterwards. If anyone would like to lead a hike, please do! Easy to moderate trails are always popular. Email me if you have trouble posting, or if you'd like a file describing all our hikes so far. --Natalie
Eldorado Canyon Trail in Eldorado State Park. This is classified as a moderate to difficult trail with terrific views of Eldorado Canyon and the Continental Divide.
The trail is 3.5 miles to Walker Ranch, but we will stop and turn back at around 2 miles, where the trail crests with views across Walker Ranch toward the Continental Divide. The trail faces south, so hopefully we can avoid ice. About 4 miles round trip, elevation gain 1000 ft. Dogs are allowed.
If anyone would like to join, please meet at Eldorado Canyon State Park, on Eldorado Springs Drive (Highway 170), 3.8 miles west of Highway 93. Take Broadway south out of Boulder, where it will turn into State Highway 93. Continue on State Highway 93 until you reach Eldorado Springs Drive. Turn west and continue for 3.1 miles to enter Eldorado Canyon State Park. The Eldorado Canyon Trailhead is located at the Visitors Center, 1 mile west past the pay station.
There is a $8 entrance fee for cars. If you would like to carpool from Boulder, meet at the Brewing Market at Basemar shopping center at 9:00 am.

I've been checking road conditions and haven't heard any road problems on 170, so I'm still planning to meet everyone at Basemar at 9 am. However if for some reason we can't get into the park we will go to South Mesa trail (on 170) instead.
