Informal Drop-In Meeting - Writing and Publishing Q/A and Get Acquainted

Informal Drop-In Meeting - Writing and Publishing Q/A and Get Acquainted Session

You're invited to join the next Boulder Writing Critique and Workshop Meetup Group, now has led by former literary agent Mark Malatesta and the founder of Literary Agent Undercover (http://Literary-Agents.com). This will be the first meetup since Mark took over the group, and there is no charge to attend, so this is one meeting you won't want to miss! And, because this is an informal meeting, you don't have to stress about getting there on time or staying for the whole meeting. Get there when you can and go when you have to go.

Come prepared to:

  • Share your writing/publishing goals
  • Ask questions about writing, self-publishing, traditional publishing, and/or marketing your work
  • Meet new people and make important connections
  • Get inspired and have a good time

Who Should Attend?

Writers of all genres, at all stages of development. As a former literary agent, and former Marketing & Licensing Manager of a very successful publishing company, Mark has worked with authors of fiction, nonfiction, children's books, articles, poetry, greeting cards, short stories, screenplays, etc. If there's something Mark can't help you with directly, he'll help you figure out where to get the support you need.

Important: This group WILL BE positive, respectful, supportive,  and action-oriented. Please don't attend if you're not coachable and open to new ideas. Don't attend if you're a whiner, wannabee, smack-talker, critic, or troublemaker. Don't attend if you constantly need to be the center of attention. Don't attend if you're bitter, cynical, nasty, or an energy vampire. Don't attend if you feel like you have to use profanity in public to impress people or "be yourself." And don't attend if your main goal is to sell other people in the group your books or services. If you're a decent human being who wants to give as much as you get, this group is for you. If not, there are plenty of writers' groups out there that will be happy to accommodate you. This simply isn't one of them.

Now that you know Mark will do just about anything to create a safe and supportive environment... RSVP now!

Was not what I expected, but things rarely are. I was hoping for more info on how I can promote my book. Also, I prefer smaller groups - large groups are intimidating. If this is only going to be about
critiquing people's work then I will not be attending - I already attend another writing workshop 1 to 2 times a month.

I went looking for the book mentioned, which as I remember was titled "Welcome to Atlantis" but I couldn't find it and didn't catch the author's name. It was a "new age" genre. Could the real Namor please identify herself and provide a link to the book?

By the way "love" your book idea, and sense of humor, really powerful and I hope you shop for an agent and get book out there... (thank you for the swedish words, most of those are pretty new, so I am not that familiar with them since I live here, but am sending that article to my mother. )

I was really impressed by this group! It was fun, informational, and definitely introduced me to a lot of people who have insight and information at all levels of the "writing to be published" journey.

Powerful Phebe, so glad that you could join us, (loved you hair). I hope that last nights group will inspire you to finish your book about relationships, it might be all short stories. Let us know if you have any questions, and hope to see you at the next one.

It was great to meet other local authors and hear their stories. You can learn a lot about yourself and your own book by listening to others talk about theirs. I enjoyed the evening.

Jody, fantastic that you came, love your theme: religious stereotypes and misconceptions, powerful. And also that you are now writing about history of Colorado. Let us know if you have any questions.

I came away with more questions that I went with. I went looking for others who want to work on writing skills first, and publishing second, (both important to me) and because it was on a weekday night. My weekend schedule at the gallery is tight. The facilitators are obviously nice people. Enjoyed seeing the diversity among the attendees; however, the speech-making got a little tiresome. The humor evidenced in the group was nice. Best to all if we don't . . .

I wanted to ask, which gallery is yours? Boulder doesn't have enough of them.

      April 4, 2013

    • Ingrid E.

Powerful Tom, so happy you came, and I hope that the questions you left with are productive and stimulating. you are welcome to ask us.

I stayed an hour and 40 minutes longer than I thought I would. It was fun listening to everyone and I look forward to hearing what Mark and Ingrid come up with. I'd love to get together again and hear what kind of progress everyone is making. I think specific questions might be more productive than trying to do all-out
    critiques as a group.

Gorgeous Jane, we are so happy you stayed longer, and am to glad that you enjoyed yourself. I agree with the specific questions and structure, so that is what we (Mark and me) have in mind as well.

Co-hosting this event was amazing with Mark Malatesta, fantastic how many joined us, and it was nice to get to meet all of you, and learn about what genre you are writing, and how far you've gotten. Some of you are on your 5th book, others just starting.
We are now talking about what we will be offering next and do with this group, and we will share with you that shortly. I hope to see you at the next meeting.

As co-host of last night's meetup, I enjoyed meeting everyone and getting their perspective... hearing what they hope to get out of the group and accomplish as writers. I know it's not easy... daring to dream, be consistent, get the writing done, and get it OUT THERE... in front of a bigger audience than just family and friends and/or a critique group. But that's what I'm here to help authors do. After last night's meeting, Ingrid and I talked about the different ways that we might everyone reach their goals. We still have things to work out, but we'll have something for everyone soon. So stay tuned and thank you again for last night. Without you it would have just been Ingrid and I and a bunch of books in a bookstore. Hmm. That wouldn't have been so bad. ;) But real people are much more interesting (especially writers). So I hope to see you at a future meetup and/or at my website where you can post questions in between meetings: http://literary-agents.com. Mark Malatesta

Hi Susan, that's too bad but I know we'll connect at a future event. In the meantime, if you have a burning question about writing/agenting/publishing you can always post it here on my website: http://literary-agent.... Either way I'm looking forward to learning more about you and your work. Mark
