Full Moon Hike - Mesa Trail

This location is shown only to members

We'll hike mesa trail starting at a trailhead near NCAR and hike south on the Mesa Trail and back. The difficulty will depend on the conditions, but expect about 4 miles with roughly 700' of elevation. This entire hike will be after sunset—and although it is a full moon, bring a headlamp. This time of year, you will need traction devices such as Micro Spikes or IceTrekkers.

Distance: About 4 miles.

Elevation Gain: 700ish feet

Be on time, we will leave at 6:30 to carpool to the trailhead.

Well behaved dogs are fine.

After the hike we'll head to the Southern Sun for food and drinks.

Dan, the limit is imposed by Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks. There is a limit of 24, or you need a permit. (We found out about this on our last Full Moon hike.) It also depends on the organizer; some don't want more than 24, as the hikes get a little more interesting to make sure folks don't make a wrong turn, etc - as well as respecting others on the trail (though there isn't likely to be many out at night...)

However, if you are interested in being on a hike with more than 24 people, please feel free to organize and post a hike. I'd be happy to give you the permit contact info.

For the record, Mike was very generous, and opened up another Full Moon Hike tonight as he saw there was a long wait list for this hike...

Got it, AJ. Mike explained to me the limit last week.

Thanks for the great trip! I think I left my ski polls in the back of their vehicle. It was a white SUV.

Brian- I have your ski poles. I sent you a private message a couple of days ago, but I'm not sure if you received it, as some people turn off that feature. Please let me know an address that I can drop them off, or meet you somewhere for their return.
