Announced today that effective Jan.1, 2013 Rio has been sold .... to the Richline Group, a Berkshire Hathaway Company

"Although there is a change in ownership we will just keep on doing what we do and being who we are! As you know, it is the people who make an organization and the team that makes up Rio is not changing!
This has been a thoughtful and deliberate journey for the family because we wanted to provide an avenue for Hugh’s wish to retire, while protecting the company (and the culture especially) for years beyond the Bell’s being able to lead. You know the old saying, everyone leaves their business – one way or another! So, we set out to plan an orderly succession that recognizes the fact that in a decade or so, all the current generation of Bells will be getting pretty ‘up there’. Partnering with Richline provides a future for our customers, associates and suppliers – the people we consider extended family. We know the people and the companies who are already part of the Richline Group – we've been doing business with most of them for years as both customer and supplier to Rio Grande.
This transaction is kind of like a milestone birthday, it really does not feel any different – we are all the same folks performing their jobs here at Rio!
We all hope that you will experience Rio in the same way as you have in the past – and that we continue to earn your business every chance we have!

Happy to say that I placed an order recently and received it promptly as usual. An item had been left out and they happily sent it on right away. So looks as though their great level of service is as good as always. In other words - as promised - it appears to be "business as usual." Yay! :-)
