October Book: The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Please bring at least one discussion point or question for the group (so everyone gets to talk)!

We meet upstairs at Kevin Barry's in the room opposite the bar (usually has buffet set up in the corner for the next morning).

I was just wondering if you'd make it. Loved the book and I thought you'd have some good discussion points in it. Hopefully next time. The author will be in attendance!

Something came up at work and I will have to be in Valdosta. After a good first meetimg, I was looking forward to the discussion. I enjoyed the book. Gaiman describes the adult world, "with all its power and all its secrets and all its foolish cruelty" so well through this story of a grown man returning to the few days of his childhood when the curtain was pulled back and he saw the universe as it is. Then as a seven-year old he learned that even "grown ups don't look like grown ups on the inside either....The truth is, there aren't any grown ups." I would have loved to have heard your thoughts.

See y'all in Nobember for s more graphic discussion!

Any tips on where to park? Also, it says "upstairs," does that mean the stairs are inside the bar, or the stairs outside? Sorry, I've never been to Kevin Barry's. Every time I've gone anywhere on River street, my daughter has been with me.

Free Parking is usually available up in the city market area though, it is easier if you arrive a little early to find it just in case.

If patience + parking doesn't go together for you, there is a parking garage off of Whitaker for a small fee and it is fairly close. You can always try parking down on River, I'm just not personally a fan of that. As far as finding us at Kevin Barry's: Head inside and up the stairway to your left. Go through the bar and into the first door on your right. There are tables and chairs (and usually buffet tables set up for their weekend brunch) and often book clubbers arrive pretty early in anticipation of a great discussion. -- At least that is what I like to think!

See you in a few days!

I would like to attend, but I'll have to try to find a sitter as my husband will be out of town.
